Steering box stabilizers

1467 Views 11 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Kaistie
I just bought a 2008 2500 4x4 with a 6.7 and have been doing a bunch of research to see what model-specific problems might be.

Came on steering problems. I see in the records of the one I bought that the steering box was replaced, but it didn't say if it was the upgrade one or just a rebuilt stock unit.

I see there are stabilizers available which leads me to believe there must be enough problems to make it worthwhile to make and market them.

Anyone have any experience with them, either on original or on the upgrade steering boxes, and are they worth the ~$120?

Thx!

I have one. Bought it specifically to increase the life of the stock box and prolong the dreaded death wobble effects of the dodges. I would say hell yes they are worth it, it also seemed to stop my steering wander effects. There are many members running the braces. As to which one is the best, I would say little to no difference. The $120.00 model will work just as great as the $300.00 model. I have the Custom Diesel brace BTW.

Hope my 2 cents helped ya out.

Well, "hell yes"!

That's exactly what I was looking for - someone to confirm what I suspected - but there's nothing like first hand experience! Now I know.

Sure do appreciate it.
Like Motorolanut, I too have the Custom Diesel brace. Square tube construction, beautiful welds, and easy installation. My steering was still pretty tight, so I thought. Just wanted to keep it that way. You will see a difference in the reaction of your front shocks too, due to frame flex in out trucks. Should be on the truck from the factory.
I put them on both my trucks and it made a significant difference.

Just do it..........
Money well spent
Are there any for-seen issues with this and Fisher plow mounts? What about stress on the steering when plowing and flexing the out of the front end?
One pof the best modifications I've made to my truck! I had all my steering parts and wheel bearings replaced under warranty and immediately installed the brace. 100% improvement over not having one.

This thread has sold me. Definitely the next mod for me.

Kaistie I remember reading all your threads about that SAS tacoma on ttora years back. Great rig. Always wanted to make it out to azrocks but flopped my tacoma 3 or 4 years back and haven't had the money to build another one. I keep telling myself eventually I will.

I thought it was just me... :party018: but I guess I am not alone. Front suspension seems ALOT better now.
:agree2:
Definitely made a difference, especially when plowing; front end feels much tighter and precise!

Lol, small world! Thanks, she's been an awesome rig for sure. BTW, flopped rigs make the best crawlers! Should have bought it back, skinned it and slapped tons under it :party018:
