I lived there growing up. It is not the same town it was in the 70-80s. Reasonably priced housing?? HAHAHAHAHAHA. Doesn't happen there anymore. I lost a good friend about a year ago in a garage fire. He was renting a garage as a living space because it was all he could afford on his paltry two fulltime job income. Plenty of stuff to do on your days off, it is a beautiful area, and if you like the outdoors, the sky's the limit.

Odie has it right. Housing is a joke, an expensive joke at that. It may be better in the summer, but no guarantees. Tough to beat the scenery though.

Im working up on Highway 129 and CR 64 clearing the power lines for Yampa Valley Electric. i think I might have seen your truck on US 40 out by WalMart earlier in the week.

Oak Creek is a hole looking for something else.

I've been in Steamboat since '03. Just in the time I've been here the town has changed so much. I couldn't take it living in town anymore, so I took up up ranching and moved about 12 miles south of town. This place kicks when you don't have to pay crazy rent and live with a-holes.

With where you are going to be working, have you looked for a place around Clark or Hans Peak? Try to get in with some REAL locals, and they may be able to point you to some decent rentals. You will be up past where my Sister lives, and near where my Dad's last place was, and where my Aunt and Uncle lived for over 30 years before deciding that Steamboat Springs didn't exist anymore for them. On another note, if you get into town, try and visit Double Z Barbque, have a beer at the Glen for me, and try your luck fishing the Elk river in the area you are working.
