Check all your conections. start at the batteries (most common root of evil) and then work your way to the starter. the cables do not have to look all grown up to be bad.

What does your voltage go to when you turn your key on during the "wait to start" mode? If it is much below 9-10 volts, then your batteries could be weak also.
