Howdy folks,

I'm new here, lookin to buy my first diesel, and of course it has to be a Cummins. I'm looking at some 03 and o4models. I'm aware that they came with either a standard output or a high output motor, but I haven't seen anyone advertise which one is in their truck. How can a guy figure this out?

Thanks a bunch
Deano

those years im pretty sure high output only came w/a 6sp manual attached to it so thats the easiest way. but its only high output cause the compression is higher just so you know. otherwise its a regular cummins 24v w/ a 6sp.

I think it says on the side of the valve cover. ISB255 for SO and ISB305 for HO or something like that. And yes, if you are looking at a manual the 6 speeds are HO and 5 speeds are SO, and with automatics the 48re is the HO and the 47re is the SO

Not really. Early model year trucks seem to be more S.O. Look on the drivers side of the valve cover. It will be 305hp (H.O.) or 250hp (S.O.). Not real sure of the 250hp but the S.O. is something like that. H.O. is def. 305hp.
