The other day I noticed my truck sputter and blow a puff of white smoke at around 2300 RPM's when I am heavy in the throttle. This only happens occasionally and mostly in 3rd and 4th gear. I cannot figure out what the problem is. The only thing I have done to the truck recently was change the fuel filter about 200 miles ago. Any advice would be appreciated!

Any sort of knock with the sputter. Sounds like an injector.

Start watching the oil levels just to be sure. Also, how is it starting in the morning?

I have a 2007 5.9 that puffs a little white smoke on start up, sometimes sputters a little. No knock though. I had to add some oil but not gaining any level. I just bought the truck about 2 weeks ago. Could this be an injector? Thanks.

If you still live where it is cold enough to snow then a puff of white in the morning might not be a reason to worry. If the exhaust smells like raw diesel, then that is not good. If you let your truck warm up operating temps and rev it passed 2500 rpms, don't go into the redline though, and then let off. Pay attention to how is comes back down. Being a CR it wont be fast as a 24v or 12v, but it should be smooth. If it jumps around or sputters then you have an injector hanging open.
