We were advised "normal stop and go driving for 200 miles with no thrashing."

And if it slips after that, allow it to seat for another couple hundred miles.

my stock clutch is failing, dynomite diesel suggests a south bend 13" rated at 450hp and 1000 ft/lbs and some upgrades for the hydraulics...should I go bigger now for when I add more power later and is there anything I should know about installing this myself? any tips would be great

nope that one is fine, if you go too big it will be a little tough to get into gear b/c you don't have enough power to engage it. you can however go w/ a dual disc clutch they make an econo version that is a bit cheaper than their almost 2g regular one.
