my truck smokes a lot between 1k-2k rpms under normal acceleration (10-40mph). is everyone elses like this or am i just throwing money out the tail pipe? i did get the recall for the 02 deal fixed last year, but i am not sure what flash it has. also had the turbo replaced early on. would a programmer help? i get about 15-16 mpg with pretty much all hwy mileage. my rear bumper is pretty black too.

if you delete the egr and get an aftermarket intake i hear that it will clear up the smoke
Mine used to smoke all the time till i deleted the EGR as well. But this was with my PUP on Perfromance, it didn't do it stock.
I think with the open exhaust, stock airbox and EGR in place is making the smoke. Nothing out of the ordinary, just more fuel then air.
thanks for the comments guys. i guess i will look into doing an egr delete and intake soon.

you will also need some kind of guages asap, egts are the most important thing to keep an eye on with a diesel. stand alone guages are fine if you will eventually get a programmer, ie, PPE, or the edge/BD have monitors built in.
