So a might be buying a 2002 2500 cummins with an auto.
It has these codes
p0122- APPS voltage too low
P0216-Fuel injection pump timing failure

I have read that with these codes this thing should run like crap, have the dead pedal etc....

But it doesnt. It runs great starts fine and shifts fine.

Any ideas? Or just stay away?
it has 88k on it and I'm getting it for 13,000 if I decide to buy it.

Advice would be great!

the p0216 code usually means the injection pump is going out. may run ok for ahwile but it will go out. 2002 with 88,000 miles may still have warranty on injection pump

My fist question would be are these codes active, or stored? If you are able to clear both of the codes, drive the truck to see if they don't come back. Either way I would say you are lookkin at a pretty decent deal.

I've seen the P0216 code caused from low lift pump pressure, just check the fuel pressure going into the injection pump. if it is below 10psi at any time the lift pump is bad. I would replace it with an Airdog 150

Ok thanks for the help so far.

I cleared the codes with my motis and they didnt come back after a 20 mile drive.
I tried the cruise on the highway and it made the truck buck and then the light came back on. it gave me a p1693 wich said there was a problem with the pcm, and it gave me the p0122 also, but no p0216. I cleared the codes again and drove another 20 miles and no codes came back.
I'm wondering if the pcm/cruise control is what is causing this problem. Is that posssible? I'm not a diesel tech by anymeans, and I have 1 day to decide if i'm buying this or its going to the auction. and i dont want to buy it on a whim and have to put 2k into it to make it right.

Any more insight?
thanks

Not nessarily... Like my VP44 would only smoke wite at start up and would lag just a bit other than that it ran fine the MPG fell slightly about -1 MPG. But the P0216 error code was present... That mean the pump is wore out! :w:
