So I am sold on the H&S XRT but I was curious of a few things...

1. With the XRT system would it be overkill to also have an MP-8 or a Smarty. This might be a stupid question but I am not entirely sure of the capabilities of either the MP-8 or the Smarty yet...still trying to figure out some of this stuff.

2. Should I install an XRT in conjunction with the EGR delete or does that matter? Could I do the EGR afterwards or is it just better to do that all at once? Also, when doing an EGR delete, should I just go ahead and rip off that cooler too? It seems to me that with the cooler left installed that just becomes a cavity for coolant and soot to accumulate...

3. Question number 3 is the same as question number 2 expect this applies to the intake...When to do it, etc...

4. I have a 6spd manual trans and I was curious how a set up like this would affect my clutch over the long run. I am not one to show off all the time but I will be pulling my cargo trailer from time to time and driving long distances with the truck by itself very often. Should I just plan on having to replace my clutch earlier than if I left the truck stock? If it comes to that then I quess I would need some quality advice on an aftermarket clutch that can take the power that the unleashed 6.7 puts out.

5. Lastly, I want to go all the way and do the 5 inch TBE and I wanted to get some feedback from any of y'all that have that set up as far as noise and IM crap goes. Anyone getting hassled by Johnny Law anywhere for noise pollution? How about and IM testing facilities or Dodge dealerships that realize you took the DPF and cat off? I figure a guy could just not romp on it when the cops are around and just throw the stock equipment back on if you ever had to get it inspected...thoughts???

Thanks in advance fellas!!!

1. With the current tunes the XRT is using, it is not recomended or needed to stack other tuners. Doing this WILL cause you problems.

2. All you HAVE to do is unplug your EGR and Butterfly valve. But if you are going to do a full 5" TBE, I would just get rid of all that crap, cooler and all. Compcowboy and I, both have write-ups on deleting the EGR and cooler. Look in the tech stickies.

3. A CAI is top priority, a must do. That is why most companies have packages that include a CAI with their tuners. H&S has one.

4. The manuals hold up very well, but depending on how hard you are on it, you will be getting a clutch. but clutches are fairly cheap and easy compared to us auto guys. I have yet to hear of anyone blowing a manual tranny.

5. The 5" TBE is great, it has a "Flo-Pro" muffler. Not too loud, but sounds nice. There is a fair amount of in cab "Drone" at about 1800-2200 RPM. The newer tunes don't seem to be as bad as the early ones. Or, maybe I am just used to it now. :) Some say the Aero Turbine muffler is better, some say it is about the same. As for switching your delets back and forth, figure a full day, depending on how much you do it, and how good a wrench you are.

You have a lot of reading to do, and this is a good form to do it. there has been countless threads on all the subjects you have asked about.

BTW, the XRT IS the way to go. And H&S ARE the people to go with. Best customer service I have ever experienced. Many would agree with that.

Being in AK I would say do the delete's unless they have gotten some strickter emissions laws since i lived there. I live in good old Cali now and well I think everyone has a pretty good idea of what we have to deal with here. I did the DPF delete and put the freeze plug in my EGR so all I have to do is put the DPF back on and pull the freeze plug out or swap out the crossover tube when i go to do emissions. If I lived in a more forgiving state i would get rid of the EGR cooler and valve, but I don't and I look stock if you just look under my hood. If I can find a bad DPF and down pipe for the right price those will look stock too.

Thanks for the info guys, especially ksseabrd! I have been running with my EGR unplugged for about 10,000 miles now with no problems so I guess I can take that advice and leave that as is for now and get the exhaust/XRT and CAI done for now and worry about the EGR/cooler deletes later on. I guess I will just put a freeze plug into the crossover tube for now.

I don't mind some engine noise and a little bit of a drone...I will get used to it and in my opinion part of having a diesel truck, second of course to performance is the cool engine sound!!!:headbang:

Ksseabrd, you said that your engine looks stock under the hood, but if a guy were to do all the deletes, would it be possible to put a 5.9 valve cover on top? I could be wrong but I don't imagine the average IM testing employee would not be any the wiser...if it ever came to that. Just a thought...I may be way off base...

As far as where I live...yes I consider Alaska my home (after being stationed there for three years), but right now I am living in Alabama, going through flight school at Ft. Rucker. I will eventually make it back up north to live permanently because Alaska is a jem and the greatest place I have ever been, but in the meantime I still keep the truck tagged and titled in the state of Alaska. I am aware that Alabama as well as most states here in the south have no b/s IM requirements, but as far as I understand it the only thing that really matters is the laws in the state where your vehicle is registered. Right now Alaska is still a "Diesel Exempt" state and hopefully it stays that way!!! When I send away for renewed license plates every two years, the AK DMV does not require anything silly that I know of. Any thoughts on this? Am I way off base to assume that because of this I should not have any major problems.

I installed a Magnaflow 5" turbo back system on my truck a few months ago. It has a nice sound to it that it not obnoxious. It is louder than stock but it does not drone. The police have heard it a few times but did not hassle me at all. Around where I live there are literally hundreds if not thousands of modified diesel pickups. The cops only seem to stop them if they are caught horsing around speeding or stunting. Even if you have a straight pipe they don't seem to hassle us unless you are driving it hard.

California??

You do not have to do emissions in california with diesel... at least not yet... Anyone know of issues with installing intake or exhaust systems in the 6.7? Any recommendations? I am using superchips cortex programmer now only and I can feel the difference!

I said my engine looks stock under the hood? Where?

My engine looks like a 6.7 with no EGR / cooler, and an XDI intake, also the sensors for the gages.

As for putting a 5.9 valve cover on a 6.7? I don't know if they will swap. I am not sure why you would do that, any inspection station will know what your truck is supposed to have by the VIN number. So if they look and see a 5.9 engine in a truck that is supposed to have a 6.7, they are probably going to think you switched motors. Which I don't think will help you.

If I was you I would just do the deletes, and be prepared to switch back every couple of years if necessary.
