Probably not a necessity, but a bad idea... not really. I feel like the snubber is more necessary for a VP-44 where you get the hydraulic pulsation from the injection pump.

I put one on mine and I have not looked back. I mean they are pretty cheap compared to the guages. Some have had reported more than normal sender failures without a snubber.

I just used a tapped banjo fitting off the bottom of the fuel filter canister, to the snubber, to an 18" grease gun extension and mounted the sender on the fire wall.

Hope this helps.

I was told it only does damage to the mechanical gauges. The electric ones have a built in spike eliminator. I might just install it to be safe. $20 is cheap insurance.

That doesn't tell you what the pressure is where you need it and will be hard on the gauges. LP pressure needs read at the CP-3 inlet or you will never know what is actually happening. Also, putting that far away from the LP gives it the cushion need so you don't kill the sending units.

I guess I'm confused on the location. The fass has a gauge port right at the outlet to the cp3. If I put it by the cp3 the only thing I would gain would be roughly 6' of fuel line for a cushion? At that point, pressure is pressure minus the friction of fuel between the pump and the cp3 which is very minimal due to low pressure. Am I overthinking?

Depends if you have the OE filter in there also. A filter and 6' of line will cushion the pressure hit so it doesn't hurt the sending units. The problem with putting the gauge at the pump is it may not reflect what it is at the CP-3, and, then you want to use a snubber even with the electronic gauges because the pressure hits so hard at the pump it messes things up.
