Smarty- more power and a few adjustments plus code reader

Edge- not as much power, but built in gauges.

Edge is a great starter system in my opinion. I call it a system because You can add back up camera, comes with a pyrometer, 0-60 counter etc. It gives you a lot of gauges and decent power. It will blow the doors off a stock truck vs stock with Edge. They run really hot though.
I can hit over 1700 in seconds so I don't do that. I'm upgrading turbo's after this round of parts shows up and I'll see just how hot with a 64.5 like a BD Special.
That said I now know I need a Smarty or wait for EFI live. It depends on timing of mod's but The Smarty seems to be a much better programmer with torque management that Edge lacks and more power with lower EGT's.
I will keep the Edge for gauges and add a couple stand alones.

not really sure what year your truck is but...:confused013: had smarty jr, sold it but stacked it with edge juice with attitude with hot unlock when i had it, nice power but hooottt. the edge was hot even by its self and lots of somke. now I have efi live with the edge as guages, cool down timer etc. efi live barely any smoke and loads more power..:party018:

What year is your truck? Like stated above maybe throw EFI live in the mix. Also do you want a lot of power or just mediocre power and a little bit more safety?

Damn just a few months ago the smarty cheerleaders were thicker than a **** on a rubbish barrel. Now you'd think it doesn't even have any pro's? It's old and bad? Maybe smokes too much? Funny? I guess lope tunes are already written? I'm all for EFI live and any a like that comes to be but TNT R is probably the most proven HP/torque building software in the history of the 5.9. Of course everyone doesn't like the Edge.

I wasn't bashing the smarty. If anything I am a cheerleader for it:rof. I asked what year he had because if its an 06 and up the EFI live has prooven itself pretty well already. If its an 05 or under smarty all the way if you want big power.

With your year of truck EFI live still is unavalible. EFI live is for 06 and newer. If you want big power the Smarty S06 POD is the way to go. You can load the TNT-R program and get 260 hp. That setting will roll lots of coal also.

I bought the Edge juice with attitude just until I can get a new clutch. I'm not very happy with it at all right now but I got it dirt cheap. I have read on here that the PPE or the smarty is the way to go with the 2003's. After I have a clutch installed do I need a lift pump to run those programs? I think I'm running out of fuel now on the top end with JWA.

Get a used Smarty and a CTS monitor, and never look back. Just my .02, I've had both.

The Edge is pretty sweet for shift on the fly, but the CTS can adjust your POD and do essentially the same thing. The smarty provides the user much more control.

If you are like me, you won't set any of the backdowns on the Edge, just the alerts. The CTS has all the same alerts if you buy the add on EGT probe.

It will cost more if you have to buy new, but you'll be alot better off in the long run. The edge on hot is FUN, but not safe for mostly stock rigs, and not nearly as capable as the Smarty.

Both are fully capable of draining your rail, melting pistons, and absolutely smoking out the entire road without the right supporting modifications. Without a gauges, a larger turbo/s, a good lift pump, and a good injection pump, I don't see the point of stacking anything with either.

An 02 is a whole different animal than a 3rd gen. I have seen good things with the smarty and edge comp bozx stack on 2nd gens.

I don't want to hijack a forum, but I'm about to buy efi live autocal by Kory Willis at PPEI and I currently run the edge juice with attitude and hot unlock. I planned on leaving it intact for cooldown timer, gauges etc. What did you do to be able to run it like that. Did you have to unhook everything but the OBD2 to the monitor?

I recently switched from and edge juice w/attitude and the hot unlock to a smarty s06 and WOW does the edge run hot compared to the smarty. The smarty is WAY smoother also. The hot unlock is night and day compared to the 5 setting but you might be better of with a smarty instead of investing further into the edge. When I say the smarty runs cooler I mean i can stand on the smarty from 60mph on for close to double the time vs the edge before hitting 1400* and letting off, that's with sw7-160hp vs hot unlock-150hp
