I just installed all the gauges that are listed on my signature. I still have to prime the fuel gauge to get that working right, at the same time I installed my Smarty jr on the 70hp level. I'm getting 4mpg less than I was at stock. This is driving the truck conservatively and not letting my boost get above 10-15psi. I was getting a consistant 19-20mpg stock without the programmer now I'm getting 16mpg. All of what I've read on here states that people have beening getting 2-3 mpg improvement. Is there another download I have to install in order to get an improvement in mpg? I know the few times I really got on the truck and the boost up to about 28psi smokes roles off the tail pipe. I know this could be a stupid question but could the fuel gauge have something to do with it? I checked all the fittings and no diesel fuel is leaking out of the connections. What could be the problem?

Oh and I just changed the fuel filter and oil about a 1000miles ago.

I dont know much about the smarty but i know i got better millage when i installed my ez.. the 40hp setting is the best for millage i think your on a setting a little to high... i dont know if that is the lowest setting but you have to play around and see what works for you.. as far as the fuel pres gauge im not sure if that would have anything to do with it?..

hmm... Mine is on 70hp all the time. I didn't really gain much MPG but didn't loose any mpg. Then again I have never "babied" it a full tank either. Depending on my right foot, I get 13-15 mpg all in town driving.

I also run mine on the #2 Towing setting, which is 70 HP/140 TQ.

I noticed a 0.2 MPG increase, no where near 2-3 mpgs.

Did anyone notice a decrease in mpg? I baby it, and have gotten a 16 mpg on 2 tanks now. Before I was getting 19-20 mpg.

I will be watching thsi thread closely. I really like the idea of mpg improvement, but will not pay $495 for far less improvement than airing up my tires...

The driveability ALONE makes it worth its pricetag. My truck accelerates like a bat out of hell and gets about the same mileage stock (.5-1.0) improvement. If I baby it for a hundred miles and fill up, I can easily reach 20mpg handcalculated. Not bad for over FOUR HUNDRED HORSEPOWER on an otherwise stock engine. Sheesh, people.

I am getting about the same. On a recent trip to Vegas from Southern California I hand calculated 21.4 mpg. That is from the beach all the way to the casinos. I even had to travel over the Sierras.:peelout I am not sure of my mileage before the Jr, as i ordered the Smarty before I even bought my truck. :lol3:

Settings shouldn't matter. Unless running high RPMs or blowing a lot of smoke, all settings should get the same mileage. Diesels only use as much fuel as necessary to do what you ask....

Hamdog,
Are you using the overhead or hand calculating for the fuel economy? I wouldn't trust the 'Guess-O-Meter'.
I too would like to know....:w:
IMO, Smarty makes the overhead more accurate than stock...and stock reads higher than acutal.

There are settings that advance injection timing which almost always improves engine efficiency so you will use less fuel for the same distance travelled. This is different than max fuel settings that determine peak hp and torque. Sometimes further advance will not help MPGs and tend to increase combustion rattle.

Ive had a lot of tuners. I love my smarty and will not trade it but mileage increase is not its strong suit on MY TRUCK. I have had better luck with others.

Are you driving the same routes? I never saw an increase or decrease in MPG. But like said before, the driveablilty is much much better.
