thanks ... got impatient and I ended up just letting vista install its own driver choice also ... I have no idea what it installed without looking into it but it does work. I do have a problem with the Smarty USB.exe console but I'll figure it out.
ah64id ... here's how you can stop vista from auto-installing drivers if you want ... I like installing my own drivers when possible ... less problems.
Right-click "Computer" click "Properties"
go to "System Protection" ... there will be a UAC prompt ... allow it.
click the 'Hardware" tab.
click "Windows update driver settings" and reset it to "Ask me each time...." or "Never check..." OK it and exit.
