Mine actually shifts better with the smarty-jr than without. Doesn't gear-hunt as much, shift points are higher in the RPMs, and when needed only drops down one gear when pulling a grade rather than dying in OD then dropping two gears like it did stock. I have the 5.08 version the software. Software upgrade is free, certainly worth a try.

Set the Timing to 4 (which should be similar to what you have now) and romp on it, yeah it will create a nice cloud.
