I did a search and couldn't uncover anything,.. but what is everyone running their jr's on during the winter. I was thinking because it's colder, there would be increased timing, so running SW1 with stock TM and TQ would be okay,..

Idea's?

I do not change smarty settings in the winter. The only thing that has a possibility of changing is the pod setting to a lower % if its really nasty out (which has only happened twice).

I don't see why you would have to change it. Computers are smart and your truck should run at a constant temp when fully warmed up. also the weather should not effect it.

Cold air to your intake, air gets hot as soon as it hits the turbo. then your ic will cool it again before it enters your engine.

Not the tune I was wondering about, but if there would be too much timing.

I run my Jr. year round. Have no trouble in the winter...Temps run as low as -50.
Thanks, we get temps down to that on occasion around here,.. but if it gets that cold, I will take the wife's car :)

We have a freak cold front going through today and it was 39F today and the jr seems to like it on SW3 TM2 TQ3, SW1 and SW2 really eats up mpg for me.

Since I tow less in the winter I tend to back off the torque a bit making it a bit more controlable on our icy roads. Last winter I did run the "economy" tune as well. I always run as much timing as possible to get better economy - never had an issue.

At -10*C or (14*F) I consider waiting for the manifold heater for a smoother start.

I run SW2 and default for the TQ and TM all the time - hot, cold, towing, empty, snow, you name it, I have never had a traction problem I didn't create myself. Fuel economy does not seem to change between SW2 and SW3, I get the same fuel mileage on both of the settings. I decided to leave it on SW2 since I tow about as much as I run empty, easier not to have to change stuff all the time. The power change from stock is great, I don't race or pull so the top power level is really not needed in my use.

you can run it on SW3 at those temps no problem
I have had no trouble on SW 3 TM4 TQ 3 up here.

The only thing that sucks when it that cold unless i get the trk on the hwy the engine will never warm up to op temp

Reviving my thread with a question.

Seeing as winter is here and the mpg is down with the winter grade,.. I was wondering if which scenario would help with mileage. Last year was pretty much a clusterf*#k.

Right now I run SW3 TQ stock(traction issues) and TM4, but my truck takes FOREVER to warm up with the advanced timing and I am not a fan. Would it make a difference if I backed the POD down to say 60%, or go to TM2 and backed the POD down to about 60%.

Ideas?

I dunno if i have just convinced myself or what but for me, the sw2 with the stock tm and tq in the winter seems to be the best combination... lets me keep it outta 4x for the most part unless its real crap and warms up relatively soon (well for a diesel and for where/how i drive it)
