I have been running my Jr since december 21st and have had no problems. I am running it on performance also. No problems what so ever. Give Bob Wagner a ring and he can get you set up with a smarty. Smartypower.com | Home Of The Smarty | Home

YOU MAY NOT SEE ANY MORE PROBLEMS AT ALL, SOUMDS LIKE 18 AND UP ON THE SMARTY'S HAVE LESS TIMING ADVANCE, THAN THE OLDER FLASHES, SOMEONE MADE SOME CHANGES BEFORE THE big BLAME GAME STARTED, just remember, its the end user who loaded the tune, not bob or marco, JUST WISH THEY WERE A LITTLE CLEARER ON HOW WICKED THE SMARTY IS.

i seen many a time where everyone blames the manufacturer for giving us unlimited ability, then we break it, and say its there fault, not yelling just reminding, you push the final button!

Im really not looking for loads of added hp just want my truck to run good with no cel and without dpf crap and some smoke like my old 5.9 would be nice

If you are looking for less horsepower and budget minded the smarty Jr is the ways to go. The newer 18me software with the smarty has the timing reduced even more. So there will be no problems to worry about.

i have run a number of programmers and just started running the XRT a few weeks ago. i LOVE it! the tunes are great. i was torn between the Smarty and XRT, and 2 things really swayed me. i feel there are too many settings to deal with on the smarty, and all of the head gasket issues weren't looking good. also i was looking in the classifieds on here and it seemed that the Smartys to XRTs for sale were like a 3 to 1 ratio. that's not good. these are only my observations and opinions, it seems there has been a bit less trouble with the XRT and certainly less parameters to deal with. some want all of those setting. i can say you would likely love the XRT tunes though. oh yeah the XRT smokes more than the others too.

Bob and Marco have been asked to see about putting a boost limit into the software, for the 5.9 as well as the 6.7, (Marco and I had been email about it for the 5.9 for over a year), but neither of them has made a comment in the thread...

Being able to select a number in the 30-35 range would aleviate the DP issues and make the motor/turbo more efficient.

I am a waste gate believer. If you tune and you up the boost then you will up the Drive Pressure. Why take a chance? The real benefit of the waste gate is the smooth power up top at WOT.

I do pull my 30 ft travel trailer at times and want to be safe when I do so. How much do you think this would multiply the chances of blowing my head gasket? And would eather programer be less damaging while towing

You did read the thread smarty Jr and waste gate. Please take it else where. We don't need any squables in here.

except for the part where he was asking about the XRT haha. Just giving my input that I suggest the XRT when it comes to tunes. But thanks for being so concerned Andy :stirpot: haha

Just don't want it to turn into some from the past that you were not here for. I have nothing against the xrt. The emotions can run high when discussing the tuners. I just don't want to go down that road.

To offer a different perspective, I sold my XRT and went to Smarty. Not because I didn't like the tunes. Not because I didn't like the smoke. But because of my results on a dyno.

It seems both tuners can perform entirely different on each truck. There's really no rhyme or reason to it. I just found one worked better for me.

As for which one, if the OP can try both, I'd suggest it.

The Smarty is awesome. With the Jr you get the less complicated functions that people claim make the XRT so great.

Something to think about....... Black smoke, soot, etc is unburnt fuel. Unburnt fuel means less fuel mileage. I will agree that it is nice to have some smoke now and then, but it is much nicer to have decent MPG and an efficient tune. If smoke is of interest to you step up the the regular smarty. Put that bad mother on SW9 and give the skinny pedal a stomp ... you will get plenty of smoke. :party018:

JMO the extensive testing and write ups on here make owning and operating a Smarty a snap.
