Last night I was heading over to a friends for dinner, hadn't driven the truck all day and it wasn't plugged in (temp was around 39 outside). I turn the key to the on position, wait for the coil to go away (usually about 7 seconds I would guess?) and then go to crank it over. The starter cranks for about 5 seconds and nothing, so I stop and put the key back to the on position and wait for the coil to go away again. After that it started in about 6 or 7 seconds I would guess. This morning when I was leaving the truck wasn't plugged in again and it was about 37 out, it took almost 10 seconds to start once I started cranking it.

What could cause this? I was told a bad preheater, valve misalignment, or something else by our local dodge guy who did my speedo reprogram. My truck is an 03 HO, auto, with around 208k.

Interesting....Ive never had this problem. I did leave it parked for over 5 days and it was in the 30's. I never plugged it in. It took like a second or 2longer than usual.

Sorry but OFV? Can I just put a volt meter on the batteries to test them? I can do that tomorrow, also I taped up the wire behind the AC compressor because I had a idle problem a few weeks ago. I will see if this solves it.

But the thing that scares me is that it takes a night of sitting for the truck to act up, I am going to try to check tomorrow to see if something is leaking on the way to the injectors and a few other things. So far no white smoke and no increase in oil level.

Old injectors start sticking open

I wanna be totally sure before I do that, they are expensive. Would it be bad to use the remanufactured ones? I don't want this truck to make a ton of power, just be reliable.

start by retorqueing the injector holdowns and connector tubes to specs.
if you still have start problem>

measure the injector return flow rate. one or more leaking inj. return valves

or pull injectors and send in to a Bosch certified HPCR injector test shop. Joe GreasyTshirt down at FartsALot Jimmy 2stroker shop can't test these

cheap and easy things first. Id make sure your batteries are good, then check your starter, and starter wires. check all terminals and make sure they are clean too

Tape is only a short term fix. Might want to properly seal the copper from the elements before it gives you more headaches. Shrink tubing or even silicone can keep the water out.

Here are some videos, the first one is what happened this morning after the truck hadn't run for about 24 hours, it wasn't plugged in and the outside temp was in the low 40's. The second video is when I left the shop this evening, just to show a normal (heated up start for my truck).

id say thats normal. Its not bad but i'm sure you could get new injectors and it might start faster. But anything thats been ran usually starts faster after the first time

So we did a FASS pump, it started a little easier, then we drove it to cali and back and a few weeks later I noticed the oil gaining. So now the common consensus is injectors.

I ordered some through The Powershop up here in Washington, but now I need a good write up on how to change them out.

I saw a few on here I thought but now I can't find them, anyone have a link handy?
