Alright guys, I haven't posted in a while cause I'm too proud to ask for help! But this time, I'm stumped and pissed :banghead:. I've been having this slow crank problem for a while now and I thought it was just tired batteries. But I just put two brand new 950 cca batteries in and it's still cranking slow. It always starts after 2 or 3 revs of the starter but the starter cranks slower than it should.

Napa says the alternator is good, the batteries are good, and the starter isn't drawing excessive amperage. I've checked and cleaned grounds, positive connections to the battery and starter/starter solenoid. Batteries are at 12.5 volts when the truck is cold, 14 volts at idle. What am I missing??? :confused013:

Just a thought, have you tried turning the engine over by hand, to make sure it's nothing in the engine. Causing the starter to work harder. It should turn pretty easy by hand. Hopefully nothing is seizing in the engine. Or the starter is just getting tired. Just some thoughts.

What's your battery voltage while cranking?
10.1 volts

Haven't noticed a drop in performance or mileage. Seems like I would if there was a problem with the engine. Would the starter draw excessive amperage if it was going out?

No change in performance = probably nothing in the engine
I believe if the starter is going out, it will draw excessive amps

Thanks, I've got LarryB's starter rebuild kit on the way - should be here today. I'll follow up if it solves the problem

Update: I just finished rebuilding my starter with Larry B's kit. The brushes were real bad, the contacts looked fine but I replaced those too. Larry's kit is great! Comes with a 10mm wrench to pull apart the starter, nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean, and even a bandaid!

Anyhow, the truck starts perfect now :party018: thanks for all the advice guys. And I'd recommend Larry B's kit to anyone, here's a link: LarryBs
