For 1000hp around the point where the 96mm turbine is getting into it's designed hp range especially for a primary application but if the truck is driven on the street the 92mm will respond much better as it is not a clipped back design where as the rear side of the 96mm has been cast clipped for more flow at the cost of response. I run a 62/71 over the 480/96 with the 1.15 turbine housing and it really woke it up vs the 1.32 housing . Around 2k rpm the 80 is on boost .

What size injectors are you running. The 62/71 would be a better compound setup. But I have the Silver Bullet PhatShaft 66. I think running a 480/96 with the 1.15 turbine housing will be less responsive. The silver bullet 66 is less responsive, than a 62/71.

I got 137% f-1 apex injectors , the 1.15 housing is a huge improvement in spool vs the 1.32 .

I wouldn’t say the 96/88mm turbine is too big for 1000hp goal; it’s quite ideal really. 1000hp you’re looking at around 80-82mm compressor which is pushing a 92mm turbine hard….much more comfortable for a 96mm turbine. Also 80/96/1.15 or 1.32 is fairly cheap compared to boutique units with the 92.

Industrial Injection Cummins 3rd Gen 5.9L Race Compound Turbo Kit utilizes a Silver Bullet 66 and a Borg Warner S480 set of turbos. This kit is designed for large amounts of fuel and will support over 800 horsepower. This is a huge horsepower setup for the race vehicle and makes a lot of boost depending on how much fuel you throw at it. Both turbos are built for a competition diesel engine in mind. Features: 66/74/14 Silver Bullet Turbo, S480/96/1.32 Borg Warner Turbo. I talked to Industrial about adding a S480/96/1.32 for a street driven truck. They said it is more for a race truck.

People run 75/96/1.32 on mild builds with the stock manifold turbo, and they love it. Ignorance is bliss. If I was going for 1k, had a s366 secondary and nitrous, I would go with the 96mm wheel.
