Sorry if this has been asked a hundred times but what shocks do you all recommend? I have. 2005 Cummins Quad cab long box dually. I use it mainly to haul my truck camper and tow a boat or cargo trailer. I’ve been hunting lately and traveling on a lot of washboard roads. I know this suspension isn’t the best for that sort of thing but will shocks help smooth the ride any and allow me to drive faster than 5 mph without shaking my setup to pieces? Thanks in advance.

I'll be honest, washboard roads are terrible, even with good suspension under these trucks. Buy at least a 2.0 King or Fox to dissipate the heat better than a regular type shock.

I agree with Bad V2, i Have the overland shocks, and on washboard roads it is still terrible, I have to slow down below the speed limit sometimes it's so bad. Wish I had gone with the Fox 2.0's at least.

if washboard is your goal, kings are #1 to last the longest...

I did an experiment last year up front with 4500/5500 chassis monroes and blasted up washboards. One of them faded after 30 minutes or so with a softer spring installed on the drivers side, other side held up. Both were done after about 3 months, softer side could no longer hold a 34" tire, harder side seemed fine still.

they were $130 IIRC from rockauto.com

bilsteins are not a good fit for washboard roads. I cant see any shock that is stiffer then oem being better on a washboard road... Kings were king though.

Shocks I've run: Kings, Bilsteins, Rancho RS9000s (current & 2nd set), Monroes.

Thanks everyone. I found the Fox 2.0 performance series replacement shocks for around $160 each but I’m having a little trouble finding the Kings.

kings require a different shock tower and need to be sized to your trucks ride height

i will see if i can dig up some links for ya since its not a one size fits this or that deal...

I’ve tried fox 2.0’s and bilstein 5100.

If it’s a smooth ride you want, stay away from the Bilsteins. Any bump in the road and my truck reminds me that I still have all my organs.

The fox 2.0’s ride amazing. I will be buying those again next year. Only downside to the fox’s is they blow seals pretty easily, but after riding with these bilstein shocks.. I’ll take a fox with blown seals over them.

if they blow seals easily, how long do you think they will last on a washboard road? my experience with the fox steering stabilizer was not so good, they did not last, something failed & it would no longer compress fully while turning right. that happened 2x... went with carli & now on year 3 with it.

Fox 2.0 IFPs.

Thuren also sells a 2.0 IFP king.

Either is probably a good shock. (Havent heard of anyone trying the thuren 2.0 kings yet...)

I wouldnt waste time or money on anything else. But just to brag a bit... I just got this delivered. Thuren King 2.5s with short body and stainless shafts and stage 2.5 valving. 2 inch soft ride thuren springs as well.. gotta get this stuff on before I go to Idaho in a week and a half!

Nice! Your gonna love them. I ran that setup and still consider going back to the kings but in a different shock body (no resi & shorter for stock height).

when you go to ID, stop by here and do some laps... See if you can get yourself on their wall... (this is a fav track, has the OS wall... Pink Panther)

I'll have to have a go. Hopefully I dont get a dud kart. They always seem to find me as you know...

I'll definitely do a lap or 2.

As far as the shocks go. Better like em. This ordeal is going to be at 2 big ones just for the fronts...

Love your display of the new goodies. If you need a hand, let me know. Done a few of these with friends. It definitely is worth the money!

Probably going to have to take you up on that honestly. Never knew you lived in Vegas. I'm doing synergy steering and a king damper as well. It's going to be a LONG day. Hopefully my array of Milwaukee cordless impacts will help *buzz* this along.

Need to grab a tube of silicone grease at some point as well..

Are you ( in time ) going to fab or re use some bump stops ? Not nessisarily special ones , but just something like oem with that type of clearance . I didn't think they were nessasary , but now I think they do play a role and are a part of the suspension being happy .
Just an ole sparkey's thoughts , nothing to see here , move along .
Good luck with the install , doesn't look toooo bad . Lol

I plan to do limit straps and stops at some point. Maybe. It's in my head but I think all that will come after I stretch and build this thing..

Talking to thuren and they recommended doing leafs which then tended me to think I will then need air bags. Rolling my eyes over here. I just want a smooth ride! Lol

I do plan on getting the rear shocks with standard flow bypass tubes just because I think I will appreciate the adjustability in the mid stroke..

For that matter, I still gotta truss the axles and weld em. So there's that as well. Now I see why carli gets 12k smackers for their top of line long arm kit. Stuff just adds up one item at a time. (I wont be doing a long arm kit, im just not that extreme..)

And thanks for the enthusiasm on the install. I'll have my socket trays, impacts and ratchets, Jack's and stands at the ready. I just realized I gotta pull my steering box brace(and sway bar...) to pull the pitman arm.
V2!!! IM CALLING FOR BACKUP!!!!!! LMAO
