Shift pattern

I looked long and hard (six months) to find my '03 QCSB 4x4 6sp and I want it to last FOREVER!

Wondering how y'all shift yer beasts.

Been throwing 2nd 4th 6th, but now I see threads saying not to lug the engine.

This is a daily driver, mostly stock (I think) plus 4in turbo back with Smarty #5.

2nd-6th, hitting every one of them. RARELY do I use 1st, and that's towing/hauling something or if I just want a flashback to my truck driving days and want to shift an extra time.

Me as well...I'll start in first on a steep grade though.
Shifting into a higher gear that it wants is hard on the engine but its even harder on the clutch. The 6 speed is the same as the 5 speed but if I remember correctly a 4th gear was added so if you skip a gear might want to just skip 4th so... 2, 3, 5, & 6. But really there are 6 gears for a reason, I use all gears but 1st and sometimes I still use 1st gear (mainly towing). But for me clutches are A. Not cheap and B. Not the most fun job on the truck, the longer I can go without pulling the trans the better. Just my 2 cents.

Sent from a smart phone... Sorry for the grammar errors.

Definitely do not lug the Engine.
2-6 use 'em and 1st as needed.
Ugh yes, if I never have to drop that heavy SOB NV5600 again I won't complain a bit.
2-6 each gear here too.... I will use first if there is no traffic around and I want to be easy on the engine, but man that is a lot of shifting just to hit 25mph..haha. I tried the 2-4, or the 3-5 a few times but it lugged the engine down so bad I didnt do it anymore.
Yep, use second to start hit every gear. Ill let it lug occasionally turning left. Ill leave it in fourth, and ease into the throttle at around 25 miles an hour.
2-5 mainly. 1st when towing the camper. 6th when on the interstate traveling 65mph and above.
Hello.

2,4,6 but I run it up in revs so I do not lug the engine.

2-6 when towing if no grade.

1-6 when towing full load or any grade.
