second battery arrangements

I'd love to see how folks have set up a second battery in 1st Gen trucks. Things are a little cramped in my engine compartment, with a hydraulic pump for the plow about where I'd like to put a second battery. Might have to get a little creative.

I am planing on putting a second battery in my truck so I measured, and if you turn your batteries sideways in the tray two batteries the tray.

I have dual batteries both mounted on the factory tray sideways. I added some bracing to the front mount where it goes to the rad support. It worked out very well.

Thank you,
I have a second battery installed on the frame on the pass. side under the bed. It was that way when i bought it. I think in the engine compartment is better if you can fit it.

Here is how I set up my battery system, axillary-1 battery is on the right fender, using 1" square tubing I made a frame from the side panel to the frame rail.

The diamond plate is a heat shield to shield the heat from the turbocharger and the 4" downpipe.

All of my batteries, Main, Axillary-1 and Axillary-2 (consisting of 3 AGM batteries in parallel in the bed) receive their power from this Leece Neville#110-555JHO High Output Alternator 160-amps continuous and 100-amps at an IDLE.

The AGM batteries in the bed behind the rear dual are to power my 3kw Sine Wave inverter for full AC power to operate my work lights and power tools and sump pumps, the Leer Shell is illuminated by a standard 48" T-12 lamp tube connected to a high frequency inverter, battery bank the rear are also to power my Viair air compressor, ventilation blower and my 2 100-watt back-up/ work lights.

This is the same alternator used in Class-8 tractors.

My Group-31 Interstate Workaholic Battery, the relays are for my 2) cooling fans.

All of my grounds are bonded through solid copper buss bars.

All of the batteries are interconnected through Sure Power Separators using 2/0 welding cable except for the starter and main ground which are 3/0 welding cable.

All of the available 3000+ amps can be paralleled manually by pressing a button and the truck can jump start itself.

I have my own crimping equipment so I can make all of my own cables.

Holy smokes Jim- what are you running with all that juice?
same question. what do you need all of the juice for?
Jim where did you washer fluid res. go.... I'm looking into doing a similar setup like you.. but i don't know where to move the washer fluid.
sls thats an awesome setup

Thats one thing Id like to do to my cummins, dual batteries and clean up the wiring. you can ask wombat, that truck is a mess due to previous wiring jobs

Thank you - I was lucky in that my wiring harness wasn't too messed up.

With that setup, what all is that? Did you redo the stock mess there or is all those blocks and relays aftermarket stuff?
First I added a fuse block assembly for add-on accessories (lights, etc), the large solenoid is for the dual batteries.

The relay's: 2-for the headlights, 1-for each of the various off-road lights, 1 for the HVAC blower high speed, 1 for the stereo amp, and I have a couple extra's.

ok cool.

Why do you need a solenoid for your battery? Do you have a switch to parallel them? And if so how do you have the alternator set up to charge them both?

Do you have an aftermarket HVAC system?
Your guys wiring up the hood looks so much nicer mine looks like a nightmare were did you get the fuse block?
