I know there is already a million threads on this topic but I just wanted to get some opinion specific to my truck. I have heard allot about programmers and what makes the most power but I'm just not sure, I don't want something so crazy that it will shread my stock auto tranny so I figured the smarty sounded like a good idea. I am not looking to burn tires or blow smoke I would just like a little more power for towing and the occasionally screwing around lol. Now I know the lift pump is an issue to think about when running a programmer I bought my truck from the original owner/good friend and he told me the injection pump was replaced about 30xxx miles ago along with the lift pump it now has a FASS pump on it but I'm not sure how big it is where would I look to tell how big this lift pump is and what size should it be to handle a smarty programmer? Oh and he said the injection pump was replaced with a better one so I'm thinking maybe blue chip? Where on the injection pump is that information located? Any help is very appreciated I am fairy new to the performance world of diesels and just want to make sure I do it right and pray to god nothing blows up!!!

If you don't want to blow the tranny then don't look for more power.

If you can afford to replace the tranny and you only want 65hp over stock then go with a used edge ez or similar. The smarty is pretty pricey for the power you get. It does have nice features, but it doesn't sound like you would use them.

Again, if you can't afford the time/money of a blown tranny then don't add power. It really doesn't take much to overpower the stock tc. The engineers that designed the 47re build it for 235 hp. Even a small programmer adds 65 hp or about %25 more power over stock. That's not "a little power", just food for thought.

Rather than spending money on a programmer put that money towards a better tc and a better vb first. I promise that you will be much much happier with that upgrade.

Ok well the pump seems to be on the side of the block just before the filter does this have anything to do with the fact that it is a cab and chassis?

I am working on ordering a fuel pressure gauge now so where is the best place to tie that in? I also already have the low fuel pressure warning light kit sold by BD diesel. What kind of pressure should my pump be running?

Ok we'll senice I'm on the topic of fuel would I be better off buying performance injectors whole or it seems like changing the nozzles is a lot cheaper... How hard is it to change the nozzles is it worth it? Or should I just buy the injectors whole

The down low grunt of a smarty will grenade a stock tranny
