i have a 2007 2500 5.9. it started idling rough 3 weeks ago so i took it to dodge and they did the ecm recall adn told me that i needed 2 injectors.... took it back when they had the parts and another mechanic said there was nothing wrong at all... the problem is still there... truck has 60,000 miles bought it used in october with 54000



at an idle it shakes alot and smokes

on the road it runs fine been getting 21 mpg average..

at traffic lights and stop signs it shakes and smokes grayish white (not leaking antifreeze)


no check engine light is on and i hooked it up to a code reader i never got a code the idiot lights work

did the dealer shop replace the 2 injectors?

what engine tests beside their scan tool did they run?
any injector tests? cylinder contribution?

greyish white exhaust indicates raw unburned diesel out the pipe.
does it smell like raw diesel?
almost always caused by leaking dripping drizzling nozzle injectors when they should be completely closed.
dumps unatomized fuel in on exhaust stroke with no combustion.

can try a double dose of PS Diesel Kleen, hook up to at least 10k lb flat front trailer and tow at 1200d F pre turbo EGTs for at least an hour. if it's carbon build up in the nozzles, may help.

sounds like a poorly maintained and protected fuel system by prior owner. will quickly kill injectors

if the engine is on warranty?,take it to another dealer that has a large diesel shop and sales. better chance of finding a decent dodge dealer trained and experienced Cummins tech

if off warranty, stay away from the dealer shops.
find a local diesel pickup repair shop that specializes in Ram Cummins

My truck has this same issue. New 50hp injectors were installed. When truck starts up it shakes and smokes also when in gear and stopped. Just as described above. Once the truck hits 200 degrees it runs perfect. Any ideas? :confused013:
