Sounds like you need a new light shell/lens. They're not expensive. If you've never taken one off, they're like a sealed unit except for where the light bulb itself goes in. More than likely, one of the screws was too tight and put a crack in the plastic.

They may have cracks in them? My 17 had 3 lens cracked, replaced all 3, you can find the lens on ebay got mine for 5.00 ea. Dealer price is around 8.00
Also while the were off I waxed really good underneath them and put a heavy coating of wax on the screws.
There's a TSB out on either the 17's or 18's to replace the lens due to cracking as they had a bad batch or something. The 19's are totally different and are LED's
