just bought this 99 2500 last week and getting ready to have my 1st major repair.
The other day I noticed a clicking noise from under the truck during light throttle. Did some research on here and read up about the tc snap ring. after some trouble shooting I found a bad carrier bearing and ujoint. I went ahead and replaced all 3 joints and pull the tail shaft to verify the snap ring was in place. put everything back together took it out for a road test and the noise was still there. I headed back to the house and next thing I know..... BOOM! the truck kind of hopped off the ground. I limped it home and pulled the diff cover. Found some nice big chunks of pinion gear and the ring gear is chewed up.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

This is a 12 valve forum, you may find the 24 valve (98.5-02) forum more appropriate.
