After inspecting why my AC clutch was not engaging, I pulled the connector that goes to the magnet and turned the AC on, and stuck a wire tester in the plug and it showed to have power leading me to believe I need a new electronic clutch.

So my question is where can I find the best replacement clutch? I would like the magnet and the plates.

Edit: Also I absolutely despise knock off truck parts from Amazon, Ebay and the many other Chinese aftermarket parts stores ie. Napa Oriellys Autozone etc.

I think i purchased this one when my AC clutch went bad, but it seems when the clutch goes bad it only a short time and then the compressor goes, thats what mine did and ive seen other guys on here had the exact same experience.

I am not much for fixing stuff that aint broke but I'd advise getting a complete compressor and planning an AC vaccum and recharge.

Heres my thought process, at this point you know your issue (if you have done proper diagnostics) and can plan a compressor replacement, if u slap a new clutch on there and the compressor goes out possibly tearing your serp. belt there will need to be an emergency plan B.

Yeah, my AC was working super well and we had a couple of weeks of colder weather so I did not have the AC turned on. Then I went to turn it on and the clutch wouldn't engage. Check my freon levels and they were good. Then I pulled the plug to the clutch and stuck a wire tester in the plug and it lit up indicating power. I do think I will just to the clutch for now so I do not have to vacuum and recharge the system. And if the compressor burns then I will just get a new compressor and move the clutch.

In short, it was really weird because I had a working AC one day, and two weeks later, it does not work and there was no warning of something breaking.

Agree that seems strange, mine started emitting rust dust and then stated slipping IIRC, its been a few years and alot of water under the bridge since then.

Yeah, my pops on his 7.3 when the plates go worn out he pulled a washer from the hole that the splined shaft goes into to make the plates sit closer together and it fixed it.

Haha sorry, bout that. I do enjoy Cummins much more especially cause I don't have to remove 100 things to do maintenance. The 7.3 just holds a sentimental place cause it's the truck I've known my whole life haha.

Sometimes the winding in the clutch magnet will short out inside causing the clutch to fail to engage. Best thing to do is replace it with a BRAND-NEW OEM unit. Aftermarket AC parts fail quick. Also find an HONEST, KNOLAGABLE AC person that can fix it CORRECTLY. Very easy to get it wrong.

Yeah. I was just seeing if anyone had a part. Because it is easy for me to replace the clutch. I do not plan on doing the compressor because I don't want to mess with the system charge.
