I've never noticed any, You might smell it when you stop or slow down though. Kind of a sweat smell?

I am in tune to my generally unmolested truck, i will consistently get a regen about every 550-600miles with my type of driving and idling. I can smell the raw fuel being injected into the exhaust stroke of the engine. I will sometimes get a rough idol even though the regen does stop when the truck is not in motion. Unlike some ford owners claim I do not notice any noticable increased power or loss of power. I do know that easy driving with lower rpm and use of the trucks torque will increase exhaust temps and complete the regen faster.

I have an edge insight hat tells me when a regen starts, and Monitor Exhaust temps

I can never tell by the way the truck is running of the smell unless I get out and walk to the back of the truck. If you leave the MPG display up and are familiar with the MPG you get with that driving style you will see a big drop in the MPG. My first one it dropped about 8 MPG on a road I drove all the time with cruise control on, I though maybe the emergency brake was on, got home and walked around the back to go inside and smelled like the brakes were burning. Took me a minute to realize what was going on REGEN.

I have never noticed it driving.

I have noticed it when I was idling this past August waiting for a meeting to finish. The truck went into high idle mode. No big deal though. Put my foot on the brake when it was time to drive, high idle turned off and we drove home.

If I am cruising down the road I don't notice anything.
If I get stuck in traffic, I smell it.

I see it during winter at idle. Exhaust brake will turn on and idle will bump up to 900 rpm typically opposed to the usual 1000 rpm high idle. Exhaust will smell like a non-emissioned diesel as well. Your foot has to be off the accelerator and brake pedals, though, and doesn't matter if it's in park or drive.

Otherwise, while driving, it doesn't sound any different.

Well I noticed a few odd things today and thought I might ask about the REGEN cycle.. For example coming up to a traffic light, I had the EB on Auto and Had already come to a stop, but the truck suddenly sounded louder, like the EB kicked on at idle so was just curious if thats what it might be..
Engine seems a little louder in general for a few minutes while driving in slow traffic and when I got on the highway mileage was down noticeably, this was only for probably 4 minutes total of my drive home.

I suspect in this case, when you were sitting at the light, your EB just kicked down to help bring the truck up to temp. It’s an automatic warmup thing it will do when idling. The MPG drop does sound like a regen, though.

The truck only bumps up the idle to warm up, it doesn’t engage the EB on it’s own unless it’s for a regen.

There is 2 ways I can tell when in regeneration: fuel mileage meter shows mileage tanking...literally will drop the overall mileage for the tank over 1 mpg in a short period of time. When driving around town, the turbo whine is tons more noticeable as the eb opens and closes. I have not experienced any high idle. My 2016 is a C n C so maybe they operate differently.

My truck does strange things when it's in Auto EB and also in Tow/Haul. So I don't use that combination anymore. I also don't tow anything of any consequence at this time.

I can smell the burning plastic/rubber smell when I get out of the truck sometimes. I'm sure that's the regen that was interrupted. I assume that it will start again once it gets back up to temperature.

Did it all day yesterday and I just got into town from a 1,400 mile trip.

I stopped worrying about it

You guys need to invest in a monitor for your trucks. I use the Edge CTS and can tell you exactly when my truck goes into regen because a light will come on notifying me that it's doing so.

Your truck will NOT regen in park. When you put it park, any active regen will stop.

Knowing when your truck is in regen is vital to its longevity. When I see the light come on, I know I need to drive another 10-15 minutes for it to complete the cycle.

Newer trucks will regen in park

It's really not that big of a deal to interrupt a regen unless the critical point is reached, in which case the EVIC will warn you. If it was imperative, they would have programmed it to warn you no matter what.

See attached. Stupid forum. Stand by

Ok, 3rd paragraph
Where does it say that it will begin or continue an active regen while in park? The way I interpret it, the engine will idle up to keep the system in passive regen but not an active regen.

I'd like to hear from someone with a 2017 or newer truck that has the ability to monitor active regens to see if the regen continues or stops while in park.

Interrupting the regen process is exactly how it gets to that critical point and starts giving warnings on the EVIC.
