This is sort of a newbie question. 98.5, 3500.

With all the problems I've been reading about low fuel pressure destroying IP's,I went on to Summit Auto Parts site looking for a fuel pressure gauge. The first one that came up had one with a red light.

It just so happens that my dash has a small red light. Is this stock? If it is stock, I thought it was for when the turbo kicked in. But this morning when cold it was blinking, didn't think the turbo was even ready to boost.

So my question, is this a low fuel pressure light or letting me know when the turbo is engaged. My truck is bone stock.

Still learning about my new to me truck, thanks,
Dave

did you buy the truck new or used?

If its a used truck the previous owner had probably already installed a low FP light. Highly doubt anyone would install one for the turbo, other than maybe an overboost light otherwise it would almost be constantly on!

wells I'm 99% sure its not for the turbo, unless the PO was a little different :coocoo

The light could be for anything, don't assume, trace it and find out (or call the PO)

And I'm not sure the 12 valve guys are going to be much help for your 24 valve :thud:

suprised nobody else said any thing but just so you know the turbo doesn't "engage" or "disengage" the turbo is always spinning when the engine is on it's always doing something but what most people would refer to as the turbo spooling up is when the engine revs up and you hear it whistle

i have one in my 01 and the guy i got it from said it was a low fuel preasure light, he said if it comes on to shut the truck down because its not getting enough fuel and the injector pump will eventually burn out.

now i have a question mine comes on when my key is on and the truck is not running does this mean the pump is running but not getting fuel? i jsut don't want to burn my pump up because i'm listening to the radio on my lunch break haha

Combs No, It is just wired to your keyed hot. It will be on while the key is turned on. The reason it is on is because your Lift pump isnt running while the truck is off. When you start the truck it will shut right off. But if at anytime it turns on while you are driving, or idling, then you are not getting enough pressure.

im suprised no one has brought up a security light, if the truck has an after market security system it might have a small red light wired up to to it for armed and disarmed, i had one on my old Integra.
