Any recommendations for a beefier/upgraded tranny for my 2006 Dodge Diesel? How much would that run installed? I do tow a Fifth Wheel that weighs about 8500 lbs.

My dealer is recommending that I change out the trans pump and torque converter because of a small leak. If I'm going to do $2,600.00 in work on the tranny, I might be better off buying an upgraded tranmission.

What do you guys think?

For that money, you could definitely be into a performance trans instead of a rebuilt stocker. A upgraded VB, TC and billet input might cost you a little more ( not much ) and you'd have a trans that could handle the towing with ease.

My recommendation.... Garmon Diesel performance Call and tell them what you want and are looking to do with the truck and they build it for you in house. They'll send it out to you and you send yours back in the crate the new one comes in
If you're not able to pull and install the trans yourself.... that shouldn't cost too much to have done... few hundred bucks.

I went with DTT.

Triple disc TC
Valve Body
GM Gov solenoid
Front servo
Accumulator
Band Strut and Anchor
Flex plate

Basicly everything except for and input, which i wish i could have done, but didnt have another 700 bones at the time. I will put one in somewhere down the road.

:agree2:

Ty convinced me to do get a Garmon and I could not be happier. I dropped the pan for the first time last week with countless boosted launches to find very little clutch material in the pan. By little I mean just enough to cover the magnet - thats it. Talk to Jeff Garmon for 5min and you can tell he knows exactly what he is talking about and won't steer you in the wrong direction. Last thing you want is a transmission that will keep on failing. Jeff takes pride in his work and if something goes wrong he won't hesitate to do what he can to fix it in a fast matter. Goerend has been around for a long time as well and I might have looked into him more if he offered Opie fat shafts.
