guys im getting my engine and tranny rebuilt... the trans rebuild looks like this... suncoast triple disc converter, billet input, custom valvebody, suncoast upgraded clutch kit, billet 2nd gear servo, GM solenoid conversion, new transducer... im on a budget and it covers those parts... question is he would like to add oversized 3rd gear drum and billet flexplate but im going to have to come up with some extra money... should i go ahead and let him or is that something i could get by with not having?? the engine is getting 90hp ddp inj, cam, and studs now... after i gather more money it will have a new turbo, cp3, fass... thanks for your input

im not an expert on this subject but from what iv read since you are doing billet input i would do flex plate too while you have it off as far as the 3rd gear drum that someone else can answer. Build it once so you dont have to worry in the future if you are able to pay for it. Do you have a hp goal you are looking at?

yeah i figured the flex plate for sure just wasnt sure about the drum... no real hp goal set.. plan on a fmw s362 for the turbo or stock/475.. of course upgraded cp3 and fass will go on in a couple of months when money allows..

If you plan on boost launching at all, I was told when mine got built that billet input and output as well as flex plate were necessities.

you do not "need" a billet flexplate per say. you can use a flexplate stiffener and save some money. plenty of guys doing this and holding plenty of power.

Im interested in at what point that 3rd gear drum is a good idea as well?
