Reasonably priced straight thru muffler not too loud

Just picked up an 08 2500 4 door to pull trailers for moving.

Not doing much to it, just any lesser costly things to try to improve
mpg even just a little.

Free flow AEM air filter, removing the baffle.

Thinking about replacing the muffler with a straight thru unit.
But don't want a droner or anything too loud for those long 1700
mile trips. A nice growl when getting on it is fine.

EDIT: Looked in the Walker catalogue, it doesn't show a "muffler"
but shows a resonator. I looked at a 2013 2500 with a 6.7 and
remember thinking what I thought was the muffler was pretty
short - must have been the resonator.

Just looking to free up some exhaust flow - if the stocker is
straight thru I might as well leave it alone. The Walker resonator
does look to be straight thru.

Not going to do the whole delete thing, have enuf power.
Just looking to do some relatively inexpensive tweaking
if it'll help improve the mpg some.

On the intake side just going a hi flow AEM filter and
removing the baffle.

That's about it.

Thought I might gain a little flow on the exhaust end, but
not going to mess with the particulate filter and a tuner
and all the cost that involves.

By any chance is the stock resonator straight thru?

Retiring, so can't just throw money at it.

Appreciate any tips!

Do yourself a favor and get an inspection mirror and flashlight and look inside the stock muffler.
Why install a straight through muffler (resonator) when you already have one from the factory?

I know what you mean by not throwing money at it. I'm into my 4th year of fixed income out of 5 after retirement and don't have any extra to throw around.

Look into unplugging the egr valve. There's a write up on it in the 6.7 tech section. You'll get a cel and dtc but you'll keep the soot out of the engine, make the engine more efficient, make less soot, clog the turbo less and have less regens that waste fuel.
A lot of plusses if you don't mind a little light on the dash.
Yes, after doing some more research, such as on the Walker site, I realized the existing resonator probly is straight thru, so no benefit in messing with it.

I had thought it was a short muffler, maybe not straight thru from the photos I'd seen.

Thanks!
If you get a turbo back exhaust you have the option for a pass thru muffler.
That's considerably more than I want to spend. And being I'm not going to do the delete's, at least at this time, I'm going to leave the stock stuff on for now until I learn more. I've learned over the years that there's lots of expensive goodies available that really don't do much and certainly aren't cost effective.
Most cost effective thing you could do is delete it. Will save you money in the long run.

Probably wise. Sure seems to be a lot of folks on here that delete then have problems. Read a fews posts and you'll see what I mean. My suggestion, don't drink the cool-aid just yet. Run the truck as is and see if you really have any issues with it in stock form. Modern class 8 semi engines are lasting longer than ever nowadays, even with EGR and sooty intakes. Makes you wonder is it reallly that bad or do we just think it's that bad?

Regarding saving money by doing the deletes. Careful with that. Run the math on your own. Even if you get 2 mpg better (which is far fetched at best), it takes a long time to break even. It's also illegal.

However, if you are going to use your truck for short trips with light loads, lots of cold starts, leave it running all the time like the "truckers" do, run snake oil additives or two stroke oil in your fuel, and have very infrequent spells of extended highway driving then it's almost a sure bet that you'll have DPF plugging issues.

I just picked up 2mpg by cleaning all the soot crap off my MAP sensor, and the truck is more responsive and runs better. Emission parts seem to be the death of these trucks.
Deleting doesnt have to cost a fortune, especially if you live in an area that doesnt do any visual inspections. EFI Live from Anarchy was about $550, a DPF delete pipe I used temporarily while I modified a stock DPF was about $150 and unplugging the throttle valve and pulling the plunger out of the EGR was free. Truck ran pretty good stock, but with the economy tune the thing runs great and Im about 3-4 mpg better than stock. Completely different truck than when it was stock.
did the deletes for 500. what's averaging 15 .5 mpg now get 19+ your call your truck
I got a 5" straight exhaust Flo~Pro and it is not loud at all really.
