Rear pinion seal leak

1601 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  RJR
The truck has 57k on it and I can't believe that the rear pinion seal was leaking. I guess I can't say much though, because my 06 had 30k on it when both front and rear started leaking. All in all it was an easy fix this evening. $30 for the seal and about an hour and half of time, but it just frustrates me to have to fix things like this at what seems to me, low mileage! Anyone else had this sort of problem at lower mileage?

i don't know about these newer trucks, but on my old 01 the seal was a dry fit(lube to get in) but no sealant required.
maybe the require alittle now, haven't had to change one yet, maybe someone will chime b4 you get at it again
I'm wondering if it's seeping a little from the fluid that came out when I changed it. Anyone think that Driving may seal itself off after a bit?

I'd try it and see.

x2 Unless you tore or nicked the seal when installing it, I think it's unlikely that a new seal is leaking already unless you had a problem on the shaft or something else along those lines.
