Is there any way to tell from outside the truck whether or not the rear end is limited slip? I know I can get the vin and call my dealer's service area but I figure those guys are busy enough without me buggin' them about various trucks that I am looking at purchasing. My old Ford F150 had a tag on the housing that gave info on the ratio. I was wondering if perhaps on a door tag or something it gave that info.

Thanks!

New...I wish. Economic situation = gotta look at used trucks. Looking at '08's and have talked to a few salesmen but they have had no idea themselves. Burnout in a big diesel truck sounds hella fun though :)

Thanks!

With stock size tires these trucks will do a burnout at will! You will be very happen with an 08 I love mine! I agree on the new truck cost, i honestly dont understand how people can pay as much as they are for new trucks.

if you have the vin #, I think you can go to dodge.com and go under the Ram section and put VIN in and it should tell you everthing about it. But I would rather do a burnout, it is a lot more fun.

the jack idea is probably your best bet, because on a used truck the rear end might have been changed out. Slim chance obviously but it could happen. Using the jack would allow you to know that you 100% for sure have a l/s in the rear.

You'll never tell with a jack. Most all of the 08's, if not all, have a Torsen limited slip rear diff. It is not a clutch based limited slip. It biases the torque to the away from the slipping side.

Torsen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It does not need special friction modifier additives. I think all the AAM's in 08 have it. If you jack it up, it will act like an open diff.

It is my understanding all 3500 have the limited slip(with no clutches) 2500 seems a option for LS. This diff acts as open until heavy load is applied for gears to lock up.
