Hey everyone. Ive noticed that right after it rains, my breaks get exremely touchy. To the point of locking up while doing like 30 mph. i know they are kind of worn out but theres still about 30 percent on the pads. Does anyone else have this problem and does anyone know how to fix it??? thanx!:hyper::hyper:

I would just do a full service period... Change brake fluid, service the calibers and wheel cylinders, replace the pads, etc.

I've seen on my own rig when the rear calipers would jam up and drag the shoes. This is cause by dirty fluid. It was so dirty that is wore my caliper seals...:thud:

(Look closely at the pic and you can see the chunks missing in the o-ring...)

But take notice there is no rust spots because I've change my brake fluid every 30K but never opened the caliper till 100K miles... So I know you most likely really close to needing it...:w:

same thing happens to me. but i have a ford ranger. i guess, the rain might make a small layer of rust on the brakes after it rains or somthing, and it bite really really hard .

good for burnouts, but i roll through the parking lot at about 2 mph, and tap the brake sa couple times. or slide down the driveway in reverse, and ride the brakes. it cleans em off, and then act normal.

If it is just one stop I would say that the above posts are pretty accurate, 30% is getting down there, and pads/rebuild kits are cheaper than letting things go to metal on metal contact. If it does it every time reliably when it rains there may be a problem with the ABS/proportioning system too

If my brakes are wet and the truck has been sitting for an overnight, I have grabby brakes. After that, all is normal. I believe its because of the coating of rust due to the overnight moisture. Not a big deal, IMO.

Mine do the same thing if it rains, and the truck sits overnight. Light coating of rust ...

As long as it returns to normal after one or two brakes, you will be ok :thumbsup

Mine also does that. I have found tightening up the rear brake adjustment to where it belongs helps and nearly eliminates this. Apparently the self adjusters don't seem to work too well on the majority of these rigs.

My 99 does the exact same thing, it's needing a brake job, but I've had other trucks that do it to. It's just one of those things, you just can't get there from here. :beer

so what was the fix for the brakes grabbing ,,mine do the same thing????complete brake job and still do it,,,
:welcome:

But could you fill in your signature in your UserCP so we know what kind of truck ya got...

Being that 98.5 to 2001.5 had rear drum brakes and 2001.5 on had rear disc brakes.

But in any case the ABS system should prevent wheel lock up while on dry pavement... But do you have the RWAL or ABS ???
