Should you have to adjust valves on a 06 cummins with 45k miles? :confused013:

No, the 24v Cummins has a "low maintenance" cylinder head.
First scheduled maintenance valve adjustment is over 100,000 miles.
Of course your not going to hurt anything by checking/adjusting them.
absolutly not the head is so low maintenance you shouldnt have to for a long time
do a search on here for injector pump gear timing, many have cured noisy cummins with this fix, gonna try it on mine soon

Been meaning to do this myself but haven't gotten around to it. Seems to be helping quite a few...

snake oil.... won't do a thing.

from the service manual...........

FUEL INJECTION PUMP TIMING
With the Bosch injection pump, there are no mechanical adjustments needed or necessary to accomplish fuel injection timing. All timing and fuel adjustments are electrically made by the engine mounted Engine Control Module
(ECM).
The mechanics of it have been proven. There are 3 pumps in the CP and 3 engine TDC's per cycle. That means, if they are "aligned," it is very possible for the differential of power stroke and intake stroke to be causing gear lash between the two...

How can it be snake oil if many, many people have confirmed it?
Please show me where it's been proven. For one, if the CP3 has never been off, why would there be a problem ?? The CP3 is driven by the cam gear and it is possible to have some gear lash between the two but, it's not a cause of valve train rattle.

Those who have tried it my have thought the rattle was gone cause it may have taken some lash out of the gears but, the rattle most have is NOT from the CP3.

With dual CP3's, the top pump is ran by a belt.... there's no way to adjust anything. Same thing goes with the bottom pump. There are no timing marks to line it up with and if it needed to be timing, there would be

Did you ever do yours?

It does make sense, and it will affect some trucks more than others... by the nature of the exerpt from the service manual there is no standard for "timing" (thou its not really timing) the pump, so if the stars are aligned just right you may get some noise from the system.
Yes, there is no "timing" per say...I'm not going to argue this. I really don't care if you believe it or not...

Did you ever do yours?
No...never did get around to it but I do know people that did do it with great results.
