I got the truck I wanted... I really did (as you can see from my earlier post).

BUT.... Why won't they make a Megacab Long Bed already...

Does anyone else second this?

I know there are some places that will do that for your truck but spending as much as we already do, they should make it an option. Maybe for the 2020 edition.... I think after 7 years with this one I will be ready for another one....

Come on RAM!!!

If these trucks get any longer you'll need a hinge mounted in the mid body. I was in Reno lately, parking is tough for us Longbed owners. When I make turns I have to wait for the back tires to come around. Just like a wienie dog.
Agreed! I didnt buy a MC because I need a longbed. If there was a MC longbed from the factory I would have bought it without hesitation. I refuse to spend $8K (or whatever it is) to do the conversion.
They probably don't do it because they figure they can't recoup the costs involved in engineering a longer frame, testing it and a few other things...
I'd go for one.

But I think it would take a new frame that they don't currently have.
I think they need to make one, hell if they had to let them put rear wheel steering like GM tried to for the SRW, as for the DRW well idk if anyone with a megacab long bed drw would even think of anything but truckstops for destinations. Also make it so you get the 30k tow rating with a fully equipted mega longbed not just the single cabs
Rear steer....what a great idea !

Parking lot mode, off road mode, hwy mode.

You must be a futurist , a man ahead of his time.

Not futuristic, just needs to be done right, cheby half a**ed it badly.

I came from. 2003 SLT LB. When I was about to order my new truck wife said we don't need an 8' bed. I immediately began to look at mega cabs. My thought was if I'm not getting an 8' bed I'm getting a mega cab.

After much pondering I realized I needed an 8' bed more than a mega cab. Of course I would have much preferred an 8' mega cab. Some day hopefully they will offer it.
They have one in the works, it has been shown at showns as a concept vehicle.

Maybe next year. Don't plan to take that big thing to town though.
I really think they could have made the bed just a little longer without reengineering a whole lot. Maybe 2-4 inches.

Are you talking about the Long Hauler?

I just want a long bed and a MC with no spacer between the bed/cab because the frame's a CC frame...

Well thats just ugly.
I think they made the calculated decision to leave long bed mega cabs to the secondary market. I personally wouldn't want to have to park one of those suckers. I know people are going to yell "that's because you're not using it for the correct purpose." True -- but I think the numbers game of prospective buyers is so small that it wouldn't pay for them to offer it. The aftermarket does a good job on modding these from what I have seen.

I imagine the number of longbed megas they would/could sell would not even come close to paying for the R&D to make them. Just because 10 people on a Cummins forum like the idea doesn't mean John Q public is interested in driving a barge.
it takes a 5 point turn to turn the long bed megas, trust me drove one and it was like driving a battleship.

my fear would be the long frame and hauling anything in it, id be worried being stretched out that far with any weight on the truck what would keep the frame from snapping. how would they be able to distribute the weight across the whole truck with a fifth wheel without putting the fifth wheel all the way to the front of the bed. there are way to many disadvantages to that wheel base than there are advantages. the payload would have to be cut way down id assume and the ability to get the weight distributed enough to make driving it loaded safe would be very hard.

How do they do it now? A properly installed 5th wheel is one to two inches forward of the rear axle, doesn't matter WHAT the wheel base is.

yes i know but keep stretching the truck and you will have to move the fifth wheel forward more. if the truck was 60' long you couldn't put the fifth wheel two inches in front the rear axle and expect to get the weight distributed correctly across the truck,
Not enough people will buy them because you can't get them into most garages, period, end of story!

As long as it is ANYTHING forward of the rear axle it won't really matter. We are only talking about a max 5th wheel pin of 2500/3000, not 25 or 30K.....
