im new to diesels and to this truck. i get plenty of power when it shifts but not much just before a shift. my understanding of diesel engines is that this is normal. however my 99 2500 feels very sluggish off the start and im not sure how much to attribute to turbo lag. I am not trying to race it, just going from a stop light or pulling out in front of another car from a stop I can floor the pedal and i dont get any major acceleration. in many ways it feels like i am towing a 5th wheel until i get up to around 40Mph. just as a power test i attempted to burn the rear tires today and was unable to get any spin from them even doing a break stand. is this normal?

i do not have a boost gauge. to be clear its not that i require a burn out i just feel that it is a bit lack luster in the power department

My 2002 was bone stock when I bought it and no it wasn't fast at all but would pull just fine, but I could do a burnout just fine and I wasn't scared to pull out into traffic, it wasn't fast at all but it would get up and go enough to not get run over

When i bought my first cummins, a 01, it had a huge boost leak that i did not know about. Drove it like that for about 4k miles. I couldnt pass anybody on a two lane. I thought it was normal. My stock 92 woulda kicked its a$$ in a race. I never thought that 160hp 92 was slow. Just check the boots

When mine was still stock it could easily burn the rear tyres while holding down the brake pedal. One good thing about the hy turbo is that it spools almost instantly when you hit the power pedal.Have you got a bigger aftermarket turbo?, would explain the sluggish get up and go.

when mine was new it would pull the house down but pulling into tight trafic was not alot of fun. HX on mine, very slow to spool.
