I need to change my front and rear diff fluid and plan to do it tomorrow if I can make the time. I figured while I was at it I should get a nicer rear diff cover, So i bought the OEM one from the max tow package trucks. Real nice cover, although its OEM it does not say Mopar on it, it says AAM. Came with all hardware and new gasket all for a wholesale price of $89!. My question is the cover has 14 holes and it has 14 bolts. But then it also came with 2 bolt that seem to be double sides with 1 end with a rubber cap on the thread? see pics below. What are these 2 parts used for? I don't see where they can go if I already have 14 bolts to go around it. I took a pic of it with the rubber cap on and off. Also, does anyone know what kind of head is on these bolts? Thanks!

Not sure about your year but is there anything bolted on there that needs a stud like that to hold it on? The rubber caps look like they just protect the threads.

You may need them to bolt the brake line across the top of the rear end.

Did you look under your truck.

Hmmm really? Saldy I didn't have time to do this today and I leave for a week vacation in the morning. I will have to do this when i get back. I honestly never even looked under the truck close to the diff to see if the brake line needs to be moved. I thought being factory it would not need to move.

I put one on my 12' and didn't need those, just the 14 bolts. If you don't have the torxs socket get a small metric set. can't remember the size but..... Also I think I torqued to 23 lbs. some did higher some lower. do a search on here I think there is a thread on it!!!

Installed it on my 2012 also, I think those bolts/studs are for trucks that have the brake line bracket attached at the cover bolts rather than the axle tube. Mine was attached to the axle tube. I recommend getting the external star sockets...I got a set of 4 or 5 from autozone for like $10.

I chose this cover based on price ($89 shipped to my doorstep) and cooling capability. I don't need drains since I have an engine oil suction pump for my boat....it worked great on the front diff...no removing covers for me.

I'm just the opposite!! I like to remove my cover when it's time for a fluid change so I can inspect the gears, etc. Call me OCD!!!

Fair enough, it's all up to the individual.

Those are torx head bolts. You just need a set of female torx sockets for those. The 2 studs that come with are incase you need to secure the brake line. Don't worry about them. Make sure to not over torque the diff cover bolts and make sure the gasket surface is spotless before putting the new cover on. I never use diff cover gaskets, I always use a good RTV silicone for better sealing.

The same 11.5" AAM axle was used on the GM heavy dutys as well, so those studs are for the GM application. Thats a great cover BTW. Mines waiting to go on the truck

Heres a pic of the cover installed on a Chevy/GMC with the studs holding the brake lines/parking brake cable

Does this cover have an increased fluid capacity?
Not sure, I put 5 quarts in mine to the bottom of the hole, but the truck was on a slight grade with the front of the truck pointing down the grade.
