Quadzilla XRT-02 tune recommendations?

1484 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  johnyb59

I got my truck pretty recently with the quad xrt already installed.

It's got the 3-positions toggle switch in the cab but it only seems to work in the #1 position (off) and #3 position (65+ hp blah blah) but in the third position it also increase my fuel mileage! Which is supposed to be what the #2 position is for (increased mileage)

Truck performs much better but produced ALOT of smoke and is a little to responsive to be honest

I know the company is out of business but are there better tunes available for download?

Why would the #2 position not work? I would like it to because I can't get good mileage with the horsepower increase as I only use it currently when I'm cruising. *would like to use it in town but currently it smokes to much unless I am super grandma-ing it

The 3k tune is the best in my opinion. http://scotch.unixmail.org/quadtunes/

Any idea why the 2nd position isn't working?
The changes in power between the switch settings (off, timing, timing + fuel) are so small that it's hard to detect. I think my switch may be busted though, I don't even see a difference in egt temps between settings anymore.

But I'm not seeing an increase in fuel mileage on position 2

I only see increase mileage with #3 but also more power

Is that normal?
Very normal. Everything you asked.

You're not gonna notice anything in the seat of your pants in the timing only position. I get maybe a 1 MPG increase. I leave it in the number two position all the time. When I tow, I switch it to number three (timing and fuel).

Hook you box up to your computer and find out what tune it's running first. I had the 2000 tune for a while and just yesterday uploaded the 3000 tune since I was heading to the scrap yard with about 7,000 lbs. Go pedal feels better, but I have that damn surging problem back, so I'm switching back to the 2000 tune.

What surging problem lol I don't want the 3k if it's going to surge
All trucks take it differently. My truck surges only in the lower rpms.
Quadzilla's don't like low rpm.
I was a beta tester for the XZT back in '07. The '01's and '02's had experienced surging issues on #3. Not all of them. Like Trax said, all trucks react a little differently to the XZT, but the ones that did were pretty bad. I lost track of how many beta tunes Quad sent me to try out. It got to the point that he requested one of us visit his shop so he could see the data live. None of us (that I know of) were from TX, so I don't know if he ever found a donor truck. I ended up going through a divorce and dropped off the radar for a while. When I came back, Quad had just closed down. A little research showed that he ended up remapping the whole fuel curve to fix the surging issue. I wasn't able to ask him directly, but some members suggested the new tunes in the sticky are all post-surge problem tunes. I tried the 1000 and they were right, no more surge. Then I tried the 2000 cuz I wanted something more aggressive. With the 2000, I could barely feel it. Enough to not be bothered by it. The 3000 is supposed to be the most aggressive, so I tried it and the surging is definitely there. Not as bad as the beta tunes, but it's there. I guess my truck just doesn't like it. The 2000 is good enough for me. Like I said, I only use it when I tow.

I gotta say that it's pretty cool you had first hand experience with the (suspeceted?) owner of quadzilla. Being new to the second gens I kinda feel like I missed a lot of the "good ol days" and that there starting to slowly fall of the map. Thanks for the info, currently I'm outta town and not with my truck. When I get back ill import all the data off it and see what I've got and if I want to "upgrade". Again thanks for the info!
Go with the 3k tune or or beta_1 tune. I had one on my 01 and it preferred the beta_1.
