My MiniMaxx arrived on my porch today (Thank You James and the fellas at Rolin' Smoke Diesel!!) but I still don't have a Pyrometer to monitor my EGTs. What route should I go? If I go with H&S, do I purchase the full Universal Kit? I don't know exactly what I need. I know some guys run EGT sensors for the EDGE CTS and what not, but I do not plan on adding anything else as far as a tuner or programmer goes. I would like to start using the MM asap but not without a Pyro. I'd also like to get a Pyro soon seeing as how they are getting harder to find :banghead: I don't have any gauges either though that will happen eventually, but for now I can only afford the MM with a sensor, Do I need the PCH board, Sensor, Universal Kit? 1 of these 3? 2 of these 3? Or all 3? Basically I'm new to the programming side and would appreciate advice on what I need and what is the best option.

Thanks

Im thinking about drilling and tapping the EGR block-off plate? has anyone done this? NO I DO NOT HAVE ONE PRE-DRILLED, obviously this wouldn't be an issue then.

You will get a better reading tapping the manifold. Its only a few inches away and harder to do but you get exact #'s that way. I wish I would have known about the HG issues before I deleted.

I got a defective temp probe from H&S. One of the things we think might have caused it to fail was that maybe I didn't tap the manifold far enough, and the taper of the threads caused the probe to get crimped when I tightened everything down. It was spiking super high temps (like over 2000) instantly, even with the minimax set on low. Also the readings were bouncing all over the place, not making gradual changes. H&S was nice enough to send me a new probe, even though it might have been a problem caused by installation. I ended up mounting the new one in the block off plate. If you're going to tap the manifold, make sure you cut the threads deep enough to avoid damaging the probe. IMHO if you mount it in the plate, you should set the safety defuel a couple hundred degrees lower than you would if you mounted it in the manifold.

Yes ^^^ If I drill the plate, I will definitely set the de-fuel temp lower accordingly. I was hoping to avoid the Universal Kit... I know the OEM style is on National Backorder due to the EPA mumbo jumbo, but is there ANYONE who has one in stock online?? Gettin desperate here...

Would I be alright running an EGT mechanical gauge without routing H&S's Pyro to the MiniMaxx? I know that I wouldn't be able to properly set the MM to defuel accordingly with the EGTs - Just keep a VERY close watch on the gauge when necessary and let off the pedal when needed? And when and and if this EPA politics blows over then obviously purchase the MM Pyro. (If law allows of course).

ALSO, has anyone drilled the manifold without a 90* drill? I know its a lot easier with one, but I don't have access to one.
