Go with the 3 inch PStroke
I've always heard that the PS cooler is better, but I've also heard:

Everything I've read on here says get the earlier year PS intercooler with the metal tanks. The plastic tanks are prone to separate under high boost conditions.

Of course, I've also heard that 2nd gen coolers are easier to install on trucks that were originally non-intercooled.

Yup, use a 2nd gen for non-Ic.

Warlockcummins your truck is badass.... please upload some pictures of it.... btw from my experience just adding a intercooler will not give you more power... what mods are done to the truck?
I have tried the ps inter cooler and anything is possible, but if you want the stock grill, and a/c it's going to be really tight fit. the grill will have to be shaved alot, the hood latch will have have to be modified. If you have a tranny cooler thats another thing you have to try and fit.
I haven't decided if I'm going to an ic grill and radiator support or get an after market ic.

I f this gives you an idea here is a picture of my 89 with a 2nd gen intercooler. I have since put a Dakota a/c condenser in front of the intercooler. You can see how much space the setup takes up.

I did the second gen intercooler on my 1990. However, mine is quite a bit bigger than the stock cooler. I had to do some fabbing, and the grill does NOT fit with the tranny cooler there. I have to pretty much custom build it.

Im sure the stock 2nd gen cooler is much easier to install.

A transmission cooler does not have to go behind the grill. It is one of those items that can go just about anywhere. Even if you do off road a bit, your not limited to behind the grill. Same with the heat exchanger and twins. People say " you need to remove the heat exchanger, because it wont fit." BS !!!! You can relocate that as well. If you need something to have your truck perform well in "your" or many climates, by all means retain it. If a little fab work here and there is all that is needed what are you out??

Nothing, you get a good looking and performing truck.
I have a tranny cooler under the bed with a fan on it, plus the one in front of the IC. I like having one naturally cooled, that way I don't have to have the fans running nonstop. Figured I'd leave it the way it was until I got the 5 speed.
I'm not using the Cummins grill or radiator support. I'm using the 77 one. I havent done anything to it yet. I'll upload pictures once I get them on my computer.
I also don't have any ac. The 77 just has heat. You could order them with out without ac.

I wasn't trying to be whiny or rude lol. Rebel has two larger coolers under his front bumper, and one would think there is no air circulation behind there, but there is. His truck is a non intercooled unit and he wanted to keep his grill.

Another idea for you factory cooler would be to have the notched out section straddle the drivers side frame rail behind the bumper ;) . You obviously have some fab skills, so I know you could build a bracket & do it. It would still be functional and you could keep your naturally aspirated cooler.
I did a 2nd gen IC on my 92. It was very simple, I not only kept my AC, I kept it in front of the IC so it actually works lol
You were able to keep the a/c............ I might have to look back into mine this summer. I was in a hurry and it seemed it wasn't going to fit.
