So i finally got rid of my 6.7 and found me a 07 5.9. Straight piping it tomorrow:woot:...1st things 1st though...what is the best all around chip for a 5.9?
Welcome.....you buy your from fulenwider? well i dunno about all around but the smarty will do anything you want it to.......including eelout.....but i would get gauges first!
Well i got my 6.7 from Fulenwider, and traded my Dad trucks. I heard a lot of good things about smarty but what about towing? And are you from around here?
Seriously though....a SMARTY is the best down loader you can get for a CR, but if you need adjustability on the fly then I recommend Quadzilla...I had a Quad before the SMARTY and loved every minute of it....
Oh im all about hearing it...I love the Cummins sound. I just didnt know if everyone was just getting aftermarket exhaust or what. So can i just cut the cat and muffler off or do i need to get exhaust?
Not sure how they sound on a 5.9 they sound great on the 6.7 I imagine it would be the same. You don't need to get exhaust, just straight pipe it :thumbsup
Smarty is good for towing. I just towed my 5th wheel (11000lbs) up through Banff/Jasper National Parks with the Smarty set on level 9. No problems. Saw 1200º once or twice but as long as I kept control of my right foot it was all fine; tons of power for hill climbing and I hardly saw much smoke.
If your gonna get a power adder you'll definitely want to beef up that tranny or you'll be replacing it very soon! I'd also go with the Smarty. Make sure you get gauges as well. There's more to it than just putting a programmer or module on if you want your truck to last.
Im from goldthwaite.... that where i bought my truck from. its only like 90 miles or so.... and yes you can straight pipe it.....and it will be very loud. And like everyone else has said i would go with the smarty....i have mine and i wouldnt trade it for anything. I ran mine on 9 for a while when i was towing. I would get guages so you can make sure you dont burn it up.
i just have boost and pyrometer right now.....i plan on getting a fuel pressure guage to make sure im getting enought fuel......the first two should be ok. Also is it an auto or a manual? if its an auto then i would definatley put a little work into it. my manual has taken a beating on #9 setting on my smarty with a trailer.
Its an auto, but ive never done any work on any trannys to be honest i really wouldnt know what i was doing. Ive been around cummins engines all my life but never any trannys. I really would like a little power but im really after smoke.
