I was just wondering what y’all’s opinion were on this truck. It is a one owner 2006 2500 6 speed short bed 2wd with 130k miles. The truck is listed for 23,900 and was just trying to get opinions on whether or not it’s a decent deal and what kind of repairs I can expect in the next year or two. Truck will be a daily driver. Will post pics below. Thanks!

I am biased against short boxes and 2wd. But 23900 is way too high for a cloth seat 2wd truck. Maybe 12k tops

I tend to agree about the 2wd part. IMO, with it only being a 2wd it should be around the $15-16k range. 4x4 is worth a lot.

Agree with the boys above. No biases, I like trucks. Just 2wd drops it. 15k max

Okay thank y’all. They wouldn’t even consider 19k and said they were pretty firm on 23,900 so I guess I should just walk. Been wanting a 6 speed in a short bed for the longest just so tough to find…

If you’re comfortable with that price and don’t need/want 4wd then buy it. It appears to be a really clean truck and they certainly aren’t making any new trucks like that. Most of these trucks, especially older ones have been ragged out so it makes it harder to pass on a clean one.

I’ve owned two 4x4s cummins (5.9 & 6.7), but never really had a use for the 4x4. Both of which were autos. I’ve been searching for a clean low mileage 6 speed and thought 19k would be a fair price considering the condition but they didn’t budge..

Be patient. You will find what you want for a fairish price. When being so specific patients is your most valuable asset.
I was very particular for both of my current trucks.
07 was the only.model year i wanted because it had to be a 5.9 and the 06 has too many electrical issues.
Manual transmission
Crew cab
Long box
Dually
Laramie
4x4
As you can see it was very important to be patient finding something so particular. But i did it twice.

Don’t get me wrong if there were a similar deal with a 4x4 vs 4x2 I would definitely pick the 4x4 but I just haven’t been able to find the right one
Yeah 23k is too high for a 2wd. But it is like mint condition. 19k is a decent price. Curious is it a 5.9 or 6.7?

It’s a 5.9, here’s the link https://www.baymotorstx.com/details/used-2006-dodge-ram-2500/92010953

Where did you end up finding yours?

Wow that thing looks clean, including the Carfax.
You still need to check for previous accident and flooding damage history though.
Plus all the usual checks, brakes, suspension, cold start, etc.

The 2006 trucks are not perfect and that truck will have the early G56 trans which will be no fun on the freeway with the stock tires.

US$24k may be high for a 2wd but it would likely be twice that if it was a 4wd.

If a 2wd truck fits your needs, keep and eye on it and up your offer on it in a few weeks.
Around here, 2wd trucks are very slow to sell.

Oh it's here in Tomball. You got a good amount of money out in this area and a bunch of yee yee boys who would love to get their hands on a truck like this. Slap on some 12 wide wheels and send it.

Price is about right.

In Tomball, that truck should sell moderately quick. Lots of love for 2wd in TX. Used to live in Magnolia.

I’d say it’s priced right to actually sell for 21-22k.

What do you mean by no fun on the freeway with the stock tires? Would I need to go bigger to get better performance? A 2wd fits my needs as I really only use it to tow my dirt bikes to and from the track and will occasionally pull a boat here n there but I would definitely prefer a 4x4 if I came across one. Would you recommend waiting for a clean 07 rather than 06?

Chrysler/RAM started using the G56 manual trans mid 2005.
The 1st Gen G56 trans (2005-07 5.9L) had a short geared 6th/OD gear that caused higher revs on the freeway.
Those G56 trucks came with 3.73 gears.

The G56 trans gear ratio's were improved with the 2007.5 6.7L trucks.

A search on this forum will have further info on this issue.

As for which year truck to buy, none are perfect... and an 18 year old clean Texas 2wd truck won't be perfect neither!
