power steering- likely issues?

636 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  mpwolf
The power steering pump went out on me back in the spring, so had a new pump installed. Now it's back to taking longer than it should to build up pressure. The funny thing is the fluid reservoir is where it should be. Where should I start looking for the problem?

I'll give it a try. The thing that confuses me is the problem appeared out of the blue. How would air suddenly get into the system?

Shop says they're getting lots of air out, but the steering doesn't get any easier as they keep topping up the resevoir. We've got a new filter on order, and then they are recommending a new high pressure line. I'm not optimistic about the problem being solved before the snow arrives on Sunday. GRRR.
Turns out it was a clogged filter. Spun on the new one and problem solved. No issues at all during 4 hrs of plowing snow today.
