power amp fuse keeps blowing....?

Well guys i dont know whats going but my power amp keeps blowing out on me. I pulled the radio out and made sure all the connections are right and they are. I've had this radio in my truck for about 2 years and its never gave me any problems(not sure what kind it is but its an aftermarket one). I will replace the fuse and it might stay working for a week or so and sometimes it blows as soon as i put it in. I've quaddruple checked all connections and its all good. Im thinking its something inside the radio causing this. Any ideas..?? :confused013:

unplug the radio for a week and see if that helps :confused013:

it is probably your radio i had one go all weird on me like that to but if you had an malty meter you could check by testing both your power and constant to the ground wire or the radio case

Gonna bump this back up because i still havent got my radio fixed. Any ideas guys? Swapped in a differnt radio and the fuse is still blowing.

is it the fuse to your amp blowing out or the radio? if its the amp check the power wire and make sure its not grounding out on any thing...

take the radio out of the dash but keep everything plugged in.... go to your fuse pannel pull out the radio fuse and put in a false load ( a spot light from walmart works well) cut the cig pluggin off the end of spot light put the correct connectors on the end of the spot light that will fit in the fuse terminals (also leave enough wire so you can put the spot light in the cab that way you dont have to get out to check if its on or not).... once you have done this... turn the spot light on if it lights up then you have a short to ground what i would do from here is if the light stays lit then unplug the radio if the light stays lit then you no your short to ground is before the radio if it doesnt stay lit then your short to ground is in the radio .... now if it doesnt light up then shake the radio a little bit or fiddle with some of the connectors and see if it causes the light to light up dont push on anything to hard tho..


if it stays lit when you unplug the radio... your problem may not be with the radio circut i could be with any circut the shares the same fuse as the radio

Its the power amp fuse not the radio fuse. That radio will turn on and work fine, i just dont have any sound. jakethesnake wheres the ground at for the amp located?

have you visually inspected the whole power wire?

I would check over it again and make sure that your power wire isn't touching anything metal and that no wire is touching another wire..other than that put a bigger fuse in that fuse holder.

I think its something to do with the power wire. I've tried larger fuses and they still blow. I will look at the power wire and see what happens

yea. i would just start replacing the the wires one by one and see if that fixes the problem..

just check the main power wire and make sure it not exposed to any kind of metal or screw or if youd like just replace the whole wire. if that doesnt fix it id say its your amp

Run a new pwr fused line to the amp and a new ground. If problem persists buy a new amp.

WTF are yall talking about? I thought this started about the factory amp fuse not a sub amp? Is that what your talking about?

I didn't see where he said factory amp or aftermarket? The way he talked about radio and amp has two separate entity's I tool it as a aftermarket amp. Doesn't matter either way though. If it keeps blowing the fuse, then run new power and ground (if factory then bypass harness). If that doesn't solve the problem then it's in the amp
