Hey guys I'm fairly new to the diesel community. Bought a 2007.5 Dodge Ram megacab with the 6.7 early last year. Love the truck but damn I get ty gas mileage. I'm getting an average of about 9-11 MPG. What should I be averaging? What reasons do you think why I'm getting crappy mileage? any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sounds about right, depending on how much city or highway you drive.

I drive nearly 100% city, in stop and go traffic, red light to red light thats about the MPG you can expect from the truck with all the emissions stuff on it. Heck cars don’t even do that great in 100% city.

Deleted Im seeing 9-14 on 100% city driving, depending on how i drive. If i mix in some highway I have hit 15.

Goin to the beach unloaded i can hit 20ish average if i stick to 70mph.

This is hand calculated btw.

So yea, before i was deleted i was actually getting really crap milage on the highway. Deleted helped highway the most.

Any smoke? New fuel filter? Boost leaks?

Edit: yea id start with the maintenance items. Fresh fluids, engine, t-case or diff. the u-joints and wheel bearings can affect mpg a little. Check for boost leaks. It could be a ton of little things costing you a few mpg.

Provide more information about the truck and your maintenance.

11mpg is likely quite average. Try a DUALLY! I get maybe 8mpg when towing! The best I see is around 14mpg.

It's a truck and not a PRIUS, so..

What gears, tires & size do you have? Is it lifted? Are you carrying a load in the bed? How do you drive it,? When you get on the freeway do you just stomp on it to get up to 70 or ease into it nice and slow?? There are too many variables in this equation to find the answer. Just driving styles can equate to a few MPGs. I can get about 4mpg better than my wife driving her Acadia by just driving nice and easy as opposed to her either being on the gas or on the brake.

To put it in perspective, I've got a 2007.5 2wd mega and before tuning I would get 17-18 mpg freeway.
No lift, stock tires, 3.73's and easy driving style.

If you compare that to a 2007.5 4x4, lifted, BIG tires, drive like you stole it driving style you'd see a big fuel mileage drop. Your 11mpg is in line with this scenario so give us all the info and you'll get some good recommendations.

Guys,

I drive a deleted 08 but 5" exhaust with EFI LIVE. The RevMax with Goerend triple disc helps out. I just returned home from southern Illinois trip averaging 16-17 actual mileage while pushing 75-85 MPH. If I ever slow down my DD gets in the 20's -------- I know fat chance of that happening.

No didn't scare me away... lol I drive it really easy. I'm 44 years old don't need to be showing off in a bad truck... decided to get it deleted. Egr and PDF. I have 35" tires on it. New Fuel filter about 3 full tanks ago. Hardly drive the truck much because I have an everyday driver. Hopefully the deletes makes a difference!

I added the Stealth Module and noticed a dramatic increase in throttle response and slight increase in fuel mileage. I’m averaging 2-4 mpg better depending on city or hwy. I have however had a few ghosts appear with the module while towing can’t be explained or replicated when not towing. Anyone else have any experience with the Stealth Module?

Deletes are 1-4mpg gain, nothing major. The extra power will offset the fuel gains, just sayin'.

Just did a 740mile round trip from Salt Lake City to Mesquite, NV. I averaged 85-95mph and got around 16mpg hauling the mail. No towing, but the fuel use was awesome. I could have made the entire trip on a single tank of fuel, but once I started to near quarter tank, decided to fuel up and was less than 100 miles from destination.
