Did you replace the valve body as recommended in post #8 & 9 in your original thread?

Or just the sensor?
The dealer had it for 7 days and said it only needed a OD sensor. not sure if the sensors are warranty by dodge or not?. no i didnt as the dealer said it only needed the OD sensor. So its going to a tranny shop tommorrow thats isnt the dealer. can you tell me do they drop the tranny for the valve body. the truck drives fine in maunal shift on the gear shift makes me think it some sensor again.

It probably is a sensor this time. Something internally is probably making them fail prematurely. It can shift manually because when you put it in 3-2-1, you're moving a valve that directs fluid flow vs electronically when it's in "D"

A lot of the symptoms of this code involve the valve body. So I'd just cut my losses and go with an upgraded valve body. Go with aftermarket too, because the Mopar one failed means it probably will again. Aftermarket usually solves most of the oem downfalls.

From the other thread: Yes, in these trucks (2007-2009) at high mileage (90K+), P0871 usually indicates a worn Solenoid Switch Valve (SSV) bore in the main valve body. This will also frequently distress the OD clutch, although lack of any gear ratio errors (like P0735, P0734, or P0729) is a good sign.

P0871 can also be caused by a wiring problem, but in most cases (especially if truck is OK until warmed up or under a heavy load) you'll need a new valve body assembly. Note that the SSV is inside the main valve body itself, so DON'T replace just the solenoid module (which is part of the VB assy); that will not fix it. The whole VB assy is RL033980AC and lists for $575 from Mopar. Bad news: At the moment they appear to be on national back order, so you might want to look at an aftermarket VB.

You just have to drop the oil pan to replace the VB (not pull the whole trans). So I would replace the VB now, and hope that your OD clutch is still OK.

Do a forum search for the code you're getting. Lots of info already there including info on aftermarket valve bodies
