Painted my grill. Removing the chrome a little at a time.

Got tired of my chrome grill bubbling, so I decided to peel off the chrome and paint it. I used self etching primer, Dupli-Color PRX black and Dupli-Color Perfect Match clear. I also painted the inserts aluminum silver. The grill could use a light wet sand, but it doesn't bother me that much. Anyways here is a before and after pic. To finish off the front, I need to get my SRT 10 hood painted, buy a Laramie bumper cover, and I would love to have a set of Retro Shop black headlights with projector conversion.

That looks great. How close of a match is the duplicolor to the factory paint?

I want to do this to my 08 grille. I think it would look great.

Looks really good! I have to do mine sometime. Did you sand the chrome completely off or just scuff it?

It matches almost exactly. I didn't polish it out so the clear is more of a semi gloss than a high gloss.

I peeled the chrome off then scuffed the plastic up before spraying the primer. The chrome peels off pretty easily with a razor blade, but wear gloves or you will definitely lose some blood. Looking back, buying an I painted grill from rockauto dot com would be easier.
