GM just had a pretty huge warranty recall on some cars for a problem with one of the sensors my company works with. Their harness group didn't have the proper checks in place to ensure the pins in the connector were fully seated. As a results when the harnesses were mated the only point of contact was at the very tip of the pins resulting in an intermittent connection fairly similar to what you describe. I would pull the connectors to see if any of the pins look like they may be depressed even the slightest bit.
